Kristin Ashley - headshotAbout Kristen Ashley:

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn’t taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen’s Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

    Nothing’s changed.

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she’s blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.

    REVIEW

    Jill’s Review

R.J. Prescott’s The Aftermath is a raw, intriguing fighter novel.

I loved getting O’Connell’s POV in this book. I just eat up the male POV. Somehow it makes a book more raw when you are reading it… which is perfectly fitting for a fighter book. This was a book that was so easy to get lost in. The characters drew me in and kept my attention from start to finish. I love reading about flawed characters… and that is exactly what Cormac and Em are. Two flawed people that love each other deeply. watching them get hit with challenges again – having Em’s life in danger kept mw flipping those pages.

RJ Prescott has a great writing career ahead of her! I can’t wait to read more from her!

I received a complimentary copy of The Aftermath in exchange for my honest review.

  • Title: The Summer Games: Out of Bounds
    Author: R.S. Grey
    Release Date: Aug 1, 2016
    I despise Erik Winter.
He’s arrogant and cruel—a man I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy—and by some twisted turn of fate, he’s my new Olympic gymnastics coach.
I’ve had to contend with gruff coaches in the past, but Erik is far worse. His stern demeanor complements a body built for intimidation, and his reprimands come from a mouth so cunning, I know it could strip me of my defenses—if I let it.
Though each of us would love to be rid of the other forever, we are bound to each other by need and necessity. I’m his rising star, his best shot at proving himself to his critics. And without a coach, I have zero chance of winning gold in Rio.
The easiest way forward would be to wave a white flag and make peace with the man I’ll be sharing close quarters with for the foreseeable future, but he is intent on war.
    Fine. By. Me.
If he pushes me, I’ll push back harder. If he wants to test me, to play with my head, I’ll show him just how many boundaries I’m willing to cross. Because I know it’s not a choice between winning or warring—not if you can have them both. At the end of it all, I plan on leaving Rio with gold around my neck and his icy heart in the palm of my hand.

    REVIEW

    Jill’s Review

We all know sports romances are a hot commodity these days.. but Out of Bounds is NOT your typical spots romance! When I saw it was about an Olympic Gymnast I thought Gimme, Gimme, Gimme! Seriously, gymnastics is my favorite event! I have pictures of me with a Mary Lou Retton leotard… I LOVED THAT! (And probably also just dated myself LOL!)

RS Grey got a perfect 10 on this book. I didn’t want to put it down! The characters were intriguing. There was such a mixed bunch of them that there was literally some thing for everyone. The dark and sexy coach Erik, the feisty Brie, bitchy loner June, oh so innocent Rosie, the say what’s on her mind loves to talk sex Lexi, the endearing grandfather.. I could go on.. but really aren’t you going to read this? This was a flawed set of characters which made me love them all that more.

The chemistry/tension between Erik and Brie was written so flawlessly. You could feel it through the pages. The flip flopping with Erik made me want to scream but also invested me so much more in the story and their relationship. Rooting for those moments when their chemistry would explode!

Out of Bounds has a taste of that forbidden – coach and gymnast… Though they are all of age, so no worries there 😉

I highly recommend this book. It will have you glued to the pages as you delve into the world of the Olympics.

I received a complimentary copy of Out Of Bounds in exchange for my honest review.

I am a lover of books, chocolate, reality TV, black labs, and cold weather. Seriously, if I had it my way, I would be curled up on the couch with all of those things… everyday.
I live in Texas where I spend my free time writing and reading. My favorite authors include Mindy Kaling & Jonathan Safran Foer. I’m a comedy geek and love all things “funny”. Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.

    — EXCERPT —
She takes my hand, the smallest of grins splitting her lips. Standing, I pull her to her feet. She isn’t dressed like the other women in the club. Her jeans fit her like a glove and show off her curves, but they aren’t designer threads. Her tank top barely reveals any cleavage, but it does show off her toned arms.

“I bet I looked ridiculous,” she states, brushing the hair out of her face.

Words flow from my mouth before I can even stop them. “Someone as beautiful as you could never look ridiculous.” Nice line, cheese dick.

Blushing, she shoves her phone and her charger cord back in her purse. “That’s really nice of you to let me use your phone. If you’re sure you don’t mind, I’ll just send my sister a text.”

“I wouldn’t have offered if I minded,” I reply, holding her gaze until she shyly glances away. “Here.” I offer her my phone.

She takes the phone and grimaces. “Just one message,” she says before quickly typing a message and then handing it back. “Oh, wait. I should probably delete that.” She snatches my phone back giving me a wicked grin.

I’m lost in her bright, blue eyes as her fingers slide over the screen, doing God knows what in my phone.

Between the booze and this woman, there are no fucks left to give. She could steal the damn thing and I’m not sure I’d be able to protest.

“Thanks again.” She tucks the phone in my hand before turning to leave.

I catch her arm at the elbow. “Hey. Where ya goin’? You didn’t tell me your name.”

She glances up through her lashes while tucking a stray hair behind her ear. “It’s Sidney.”

    Sidney.

    Sidney.

Fucking remember that, you drunk douchebag.

    Sid…ney.

“Sidney. That’s a gorgeous name. It fits you. Are you here alone?” I rush out, doing my best to hide my drunken slur. I pray that she says yes, not only because I’m interested in her, but also because what kind of an asshole lets her crawl around on the ground?

Her gaze shifts from side to side while she smirks. “Are you trying to pick me up?”

“Well, technically, I just did,” I tell her, gesturing to the spot she was just in on the floor.

“Touché.” Her smile grows. “I’m here with some friends, actually”

Glad she didn’t mention a boyfriend, I offer, “Let me buy you a drink.”

She shakes her head. “Thanks, but no, thanks. I’m not drinking. I was actually about to head home.”

“Well, then let me get you a soda. A water? I hear the bartender makes a mean Shirley Temple,” I counter, determined not to let her leave yet.

She laughs, and the magical sound spurs me on.

“What’s the rush? Husband waiting at home?”

Shaking her head again, she responds, “Nope. Just my couch and Netflix.”

I dramatically clutch my heart then shoot her my best smile. “You’re too beautiful to waste it on your couch. Come have one nonalcoholic beverage with me.” I stick my bottom lip out in an attempt to look pathetic enough that she’ll say yes.

Fuck. Am I really doing this?

I’m rewarded for my efforts with a big smile and a quick nod. Yes. Yes. I fucking am.

“How can I resist the puppy-dog face?” she laughs.

Pumping my arms in the air, I shout, “She said yes!” Gripping her around the waist, I lift her off her feet and jokingly spin us both around in a circle. “She said yes!”

Wiggling out of my arms, she shrieks, “Oh my god, put me down! Jesus, how drunk are you?”

Grinning from ear to ear, I tell her, “I’ve only had three drinks.” I hold up five fingers and wink.

Shaking her head, she mumbles, “Multiply that by two at least.”

Ready to continue this conversation with a drink in my hand, I place my hand on the small of her back and guide her to the bar.

Knocking on the bar with my knuckles, I get the bartender’s attention. “I’ll have a Crown and Coke. And the hottest chick in the club here wants a Shirley Temple.”

Gripping my bicep, she interjects, “I’ll just take a water, please.”

Normally, I’d throw in a flex for good measure.

For this chick? I throw in three.

A few minutes of fighting not to stare at her cleavage later, he sets the drinks in front of us. I hand hers over and offer my glass up in a toast.

Raising one eyebrow at me, she smirks, “This ought to be good.”

I clear my throat before saying, “To cell phones. May yours always be dead, sockets be missing, and heroes be plentiful.” I pause when I realize what I said. Then I correct myself. “And, by heroes, I mean me. May I be plentiful.” I clink her cup with mine.

She giggles before taking a small sip. “Hear, hear.”

    OA Synopsis

Delilah Northcutt has been described as weird, nerdy. But her favorite term is quirky. The eccentric flower shop owner definitely marches to the beat of her own drum. On the rebound from a cheating ex, she’s not looking to open her heart to someone else any time soon. On a whim, her best friend convinces her that one night with a stranger she’ll never see again is just what she needs to pull herself out of the funk she’s been living in.

Overly serious, workaholic Richard Locklaine was always described as the twin determined to do the right thing. Even if it was at the cost of his own well-being. But after years in a loveless, manipulative marriage, he’s finally free and ready to build a life of his choosing. And nowhere in that life is there room for another woman—unless it’s for just one night, of course.

They are complete opposites in every single way. But for some reason, fate has decided to force the two of them together. Despite the chemistry, they’re determined to fight the attraction growing between them. Besides, what could a florist with horrible taste in music and an attorney from Connecticut ever really have in common? Only one thing is certain. When they finally come together, it’s going to be epic.

sexy beautiful couple relaxing in bed at the hotel

    OA Excerpt

My eyes narrowed as I studied her face. “I’m sorry, do we know each other?”

    “Excuse me?”

Why did she sound so pissed? I held my hands up in surrender. “It’s not a line, I swear. You just look familiar to me, but I can’t figure out where I know you from. It’s driving me crazy. We’ve met, right?” Her cheeks flushed a bright pink. With the wide eyes, thick bangs, and creamy pale skin, the blush just made her even cuter.

    “You don’t know me?”

I gave her the grin that normally had women doing whatever I wanted them to and took a step closer to her. I was a shameless flirt, so sue me. “Was that a question or an answer?” I teased in a low voice.

She stepped back and nearly tripped over her own feet, which was something, considering she was in flats. Grabbing a long-stemmed flower from the table, she held on to it like it was some sort of shield. The top of the flower drooped as she fidgeted and spun the stem in her hand.

“Uh…” She cleared her throat. “It was an answer. No. You don’t know me.”

I cocked my head to the side. That couldn’t be right. I could have sworn I’d seen her before. “You sure about that?”

“Yep! Positive!” she replied overenthusiastically, twirling the poor, abused flower round and round as she pasted an overly bright smile on her face, making her look slightly psychotic. Something was off with this woman. “So what can I help you with?”

Shaking my head in an attempt to clear it, I remembered what brought me to Flora in the first place. “Oh, yeah, sorry. I’m here to pick up a sample bouquet for Navie Collins.”

The flower in her hand stopped spinning and the top of it fell over her fingers, the petals scattering to the floor. “Wait… you’re Locklaine?”

I grinned and held out my hand. “Richard Locklaine, but my friends call me Rich. And you’re Delilah…?” I trailed off, giving her the chance to add her last name. But she didn’t. And my hand stayed extended and empty as she stared at me, aghast, like I’d just informed her I planned on voting for Trump or something.

She seemed frozen for several seconds before she finally blinked and stalked away, walking over to a glass faced refrigerator on the back wall and jerking it open. “Here you go!” she all but shouted as she yanked something from inside and stomped back to me. “Here’s the bouquet.” She tossed it underhanded and I had to scramble to catch it. “Enjoy the flowers. Hope Ms. Collins likes them. Have a nice day!” Once she finished her rapid-fire sentences, she sucked in a deep breath, spun on her heels, and disappeared through another door that led to somewhere else in the shop. I stood there for several seconds, the cold flowers in my hand, and I tried to figure out what the hell just happened.

It wasn’t until I heard an odd sound that I managed to shake off my stupor. “Son of a bitch!” I shouted. When I looked down, the beady-eyed rat/dog bastard had just finished unloading its freakishly large bladder all over my shoes.

But now that they have to work together, the sexual tension and fighting is off the charts. He isn’t sure if he wants to strangle her or throw her against the nearest sturdy table and have his way with her.

But Gabi has a secret, something she’s keeping from not just her best friend but her nemesis too. Lines are blurred as Lex becomes less the villain she’s always painted him to be…and starts turning into something more. Gabi has always hated the way she’s been just a little bit attracted to him—no computer-science major should have that nice of a body or look that good in glasses—but “Lex Luthor” is an evil womanizer. He’s dangerous. Gabi should stay far, far away.

Then again, she’s always wanted a little danger.

TAKE A LOOK AT THE EPIC COVER HERE

Yes! It is moving! Yes! This is the REAL cover! The epicness of this!!!!!

    EXCERPT

    I hated him.

    HATED him.

Hate, hate, hate. I chanted the words to myself that very next morning as I stomped toward his ridiculously expensive house, next to the ridiculously nice lake, with his ridiculously loud red Mercedes parked out front. Jackass.

I’d be doing society a favor if I set it on fire.

    Seriously.

The thing was probably filled with so much bodily fluid and disease that if he got in a car accident he’d infect the entire freeway and start a citywide epidemic.

    I shuddered.

I compartmentalized Lex into two boxes.

The first box was Childhood Lex, the friend who used to hang out with Ian and me before he moved across town, never to be seen again. He used to ride with me to school, and when I was sick he gave me my own box of Kleenex—never mind that he stole it from his teacher’s desk. The point is, Childhood Lex was a keeper.

    Box number two?

Asshole Lex, also known as the version I was walking toward. The Lex I met when I was eighteen, who momentarily stunned me speechless with his godlike beauty, had been a figment of my overactive, sad, hormone-riddled imagination.

On the outside? The perfect man.

With a brooding and sultry smile.

Biceps the size of my head.

Who gave me the distinct feeling that if I ran my hands over his buzzed hair I’d orgasm before he even touched me.

Whatever. I was over it. So over it.

A lot of people had stupid crushes when they were eighteen, right?

Now all I saw when I looked into his stormy blue eyes was syph or the clap, and that was being generous. The dude was a walking STD and seriously tried every nerve I had. He was an ass. Plain and simple, no sugar coating. He was the type of guy who’d tell a chick that she looked fat in a dress or who refused to share the communal breadbasket. See! He couldn’t even adhere to typical manners during mealtime! Just thinking about him had me tied up in knots.

Last year, when I went shopping and stupidly invited Ian along—which of course meant Lex had to come—I was told in no uncertain terms that if I would just stop drinking chocolate milk in the morning I’d be able to fit into a smaller size.

    He’d smiled.

    His dimples had deepened.

He’d even crossed his arms as if to say, Look, I did you a favor, pat me on the back.

Instead I had kicked him in the balls and tried to give him a black eye, clocking Ian in the face.

My point? Lex. Was. The. Devil.

I made a point of only hanging out with Lex when absolutely necessary, and even then I almost always had Ian as a buffer. But now that he was playing love nest with my ex-roomie, Blake? Well, I was on my own.

Lex opened the door after my third aggressive knock. Black sweatpants hung low on his hips, a vintage Mariners shirt fell open around his neck, and he was wearing black-framed glasses that made his eyes more appealing than should be legal.

“Sunshine,” he said, his smirk deepening as he crossed his burly arms over his chest.

“Dickhead.” I smiled sweetly. “New glasses? They look thicker than last time.”

“Better to see you with.” He leaned forward, his eyes narrowing into tiny slits. “There they are.” He reached for one of my boobs.

I slapped his hand away so hard my palm stung.

“Probably not the best way to treat your new male clients.” He shook his hand and turned towards the living room leaving the door wide open. Manners were completely lost on him.

Gritting my teeth, I slammed the door behind me and took off my shoes because I knew if I didn’t he’d give me hell.

He was a freak like that.

For as much ass as he got, it was shocking how much Lysol he used around the house. His clothes were never wrinkled; everything was pristine.

    Even his breath.

    Damn him.

He drank coffee like a Starbucks employee but never had coffee breath.

It was almost painful, staring him in the face, knowing that everything on the outside appeared perfect—but didn’t match the inside at all, not even close!

Beauty like Lex’s was dangerous and wickedly tempting, like something out of a paranormal romance novel. Sometimes, at night, when I dreamed of Lex getting hit by a car, I imagined him as a vampire roaming the streets in his favorite black sweats, shirtless, shimmering under the streetlights, just waiting for whores to line up so he could take a few bites.

A pencil flew by my head.

“Yo.” Lex’s eyebrows shot up. “We have a lot of work to do if we’re going to get you ready for the next two clients. Daydream about chicks on your own time.”

    “I’m not a lesbian.”

He bit on his bottom lip, sinking back in his chair as his eyes slowly roamed from my mismatched socks all the way up to my head. “Okay, whatever you say, Gabs.”

I will not commit homicide. I will not commit homicide. “You know,” I said as I tossed my purse onto the table, “it’s offensive that you assume all lesbians dress like crap.” So what? I was wearing a ratty white T-shirt and ripped jeans, and I was pretty sure I still had mascara on from the night before. It was my Lex repellant. He hated sloppiness.

“Offensive.” He nodded. “Also true . . .” He used the spare pencil from behind his ear to slide my purse over to the farthest side of the table. “It wouldn’t kill you to wear something other than jeans and T-shirts, Gabs.” He sighed. “Say it with me: dresssss—”

I grabbed the pencil from his hand, broke it into two pieces, and handed them back to him. “I wear dresses, just not for you. Dresses are your kryptonite, especially short black ones. I refuse to be a part of your ‘shower time.’”

    He snorted. “You wish.”

“Yes. Every night when I go to sleep I pray for Lex to dream of me while he jerks off because yet another girl refused to follow his instructions in bed : ‘Damn it, use the manual!’” I said, using my best imitation of Lex’s voice. I’d only heard him shout instructions to a girl once, and it had scarred me for life. What the hell are you doing? Do I look like I’m satisfied? There’s a diagram! Ugh.

Lex rolled his eyes. “Very funny, and the manual is there for a reason. Do you even know how many chicks get confused when I call out sexual positions? It’s like, get there faster, you know?”

My feelings were torn between fascination and disgust. “So,” I changed the subject. “Let’s train, because I have about ten years worth of Organic Chem homework.”

Lex sighed and held out his hand.

“No.” I crossed my arms. “I don’t need help.”

Okay, I needed help, desperately needed help, and Lex wasn’t just passably smart but a certified genius, at least when he applied himself. I refused to ask him to go over my homework just because Organic Chem was, to me, like reading a foreign language.

    He cleared his throat.

    I didn’t move.

Finally, he stood, slowly walked over to the end of the table, and fished the chem book from my oversized purse. “What chapter?”

    “Lex—”

“If I’m teaching you Organic Chem, at least say Professor Lex.”

“Listen very closely, Lex.” I went over and jerked my book out of his hands. “I didn’t need your help last year when I almost failed biology, and I sure as hell don’t need your help now. Let’s just get this training done so I can go home and suffer in silence, alright?”

“Fine.” He dropped my book against the table and then, without warning, grabbed me by my shoulders and pushed me against the counter that bordered the kitchen. My butt hit the cupboard . “Up until now we’ve been helping people find their perfect match. Basically acting like a wingman so that the idiots of this world see the girl who’s been standing in front of them all along .”

Why was he standing so close? Did we have to be touching? I told my body not to respond to his proximity, but Lex was magnetic, even if every part of him was evil. My brain was having trouble functioning while his large palms were pressed into the tops of my shoulders.

“Okay.” I swallowed. “And now that you’re allowing guys to become clients of Wingmen Inc., I basically do the same thing. Give them confidence, help them capture the one girl who’s always seen them as the friend—or worse, who they’ve been invisible to.”

“What’s that like, I wonder?” Lex still didn’t release me. “Being invisible . . . Maybe next time a dude ignores you, take notes.”

    And another insult.

“Lex.” I huffed out a breath. “Just get on with it.”

“Right.” His eyes momentarily locked on mine before he rubbed the bridge of his nose where his glasses were perched. It was not sexy. It wasn’t. Really. That. Sexy. “So whenever we take on a new client, we give them a list of questions, meet them in a public place, and then use the power of human emotions like jealousy and curiosity to get the other person interested. That’s where you come in. If another girl sees our client as desirable, he becomes desirable.”

    “That easy?”

“Sort of.” Lex leaned forward. “But you can’t suck.”

    “Suck?”

“At anything.” His lips hovered near my mouth. He was starting to freak me out. I wanted to run away, but I was pinned.

“Lex, if you kiss me I will bite your tongue off. I swear.”

“If I was actually kissing you”—Lex released one of my shoulders and placed a finger against my mouth—“you’d know it. This, my frumpy friend, is training.”

    His lips descended.

They pressed against mine, then pulled back. “Yeah.” He shook his head. “Gabs, you’re going to need to open your mouth a bit more. Guys are stupid. They always assume that more tongue means better kissing, when the opposite is true, but you still need to have your lips parted, not locked down like Fort Knox.”

“What’s happening?” I tried to push away from him.

Lex rolled his eyes. “Gabs, believe me, this is all business. You can even keep your hand on my junk the whole time.”

    “What!” I roared.

“So you know without a doubt that nothing about you turns me on.” He grinned menacingly. “Seriously, I don’t mind.”

    “I do!”

“Hey!” He chuckled. “I was just trying to help.”

“Grabbing your penis is not the answer, Lex!”

“Weird, because it so often is.”

    “I hate today.”

“Is it the rain?” He frowned.

    “It’s not—”

    “It is.”

“Stop that!” I shoved him. “Hurry up and grade my kissing skills so I can go home and study.”

“Kissing, hand holding, hugging, cuddling, laughing, winking—just a few things you need to master.” He was firing off so many horrible, body-numbing words.

“Just hurry up,” I grumbled in a defeated voice as I tried to block out the fact that he was a good-looking ass who offended me with every single breath he took.

“Ah . . .” Lex held up his hand. “One never hurries a kiss.”

    “What about a passionate kiss?”

“A passionate kiss isn’t hurried, it’s frenzied. Damn, don’t you know anything?”

    Heat swamped my cheeks.

“How many guys have you kissed, Gabs?”

    “Plenty!” Five. I’d kissed five.

“You blush down your neck when you lie.” Lex cupped my chin and then brought his lips down against mine again. “Part.”

Sighing against his mouth, I relaxed my lips while his slid across.

He pulled back, wearing a frown of irritation. “A bit more, Gabs. Guys want access.”

    I kept my eyes open.

    So did he.

I didn’t want him assuming I was into it, which was probably his exact line of thinking. Only keeping my eyes open was an entirely raw experience, watching him watch me while I felt him.

    I shivered.

“Cold?” That stupid smirk was back.

“Frigid.” I glared, putting myself down before he had a chance to.

“You read my mind.” He nodded seriously. “Now stop being a bitch, and let me teach you how to kiss.”

“I know how to kiss!” I don’t know what came over me—maybe it was the need to prove myself, or possibly it was just stress over the entire situation. Needing to stay in school and hating that he was the answer, I wrapped my arms around his neck and jumped, my hips colliding with his as I mauled his mouth with as much passion as I could conjure up, this time closing my eyes and putting everything I had into it.

With a growl, Lex pushed me back against the countertop. As my butt collided with the edge, his tongue plunged into my mouth and his hands dug into my hair, pulling it free from its ponytail while he changed positions his lips demanding a punishing kiss from a different angle as his he gave my hair a harder tug back.

I grasped at his T-shirt, pulling him closer and nearly falling backward into the sink.

And then, just when I was in danger of losing myself to the kiss that would probably be the best kiss of my life, I bit down on his bottom lip.

That move didn’t work out the way I’d planned, not at all. In my head it was smart. I’d piss him off, get him to pull back and leave me alone.

It did nothing of the sort.

Nothing of the sort at all.

With a hiss he pulled back, fire blazing in his eyes. For a split second that seemed to go on for an eternity, he hovered and I waited, both of us on the edge of something. He wet his lips, I mimicked the movement, and then, like a snake, he struck. His mouth fused to mine in a punishing kiss, one that bruised my mouth while imprinting its essence on my soul.

What can I say about Rachel Van Dyken’s The Matchmaker’s Replacement? Well I guess to start I would say that when I read The Matchmaker’s Playbook I was sure that was the best! There would be n way to top it. Silly me! I really should have known better… Rachel continuously manages to push her own boundaries and top herself book after book. And boy did she do that here. I am in LOVE with Lex. I adore Gabi. No, really I want to jump in the book and stay with them and be friends for ever and ever!

This is a friends to enemies to lovers story. And Rachel nailed this genre in a way only she could. This romantic comedy has heart, snark, sexual tension, secrets, tenderness and fan yourself moments!

Lex “Luthor” is NOT your typical romance hero. Well, don’t get me wrong he is gorgeous, has an amazing body and a way with women… so in that case he is 😉 But he is a computer geek! Like beyond beyond. He could take over the world if he wanted. But it seems as though what he really has his sights set on, or rather who, is Gabi Sava. These two are like oil and water. They both have strong personalities and don’t back down easily (and isn’t that so fun? Having both characters so damn strong!) So needless to say whenever they come together it is explosive! From their verbal sparring to their sexual chemistry there are sparks flying all over the place.

I can not stress enough that this is a #MustRead book! Not only will you be reading one of the best RomComs ever… I hear there is a surprise of epic proportions coming with the release of this book. And seriously after meeting Lex my mind is racing with the possibilities of what this secret is. How is he going to surprise us? Will reading ever be the same again?

I received a complimentary copy of The Matchmaker’s Replacement in exchange for an honest review.

    EXCERPT

Sam got up to deal with the dishes and was standing at the sink when his arms encircled her waist, making her smile.

He nudged her hair aside and delivered a series of kisses to her neck as his erection pressed against her back.

    “Someone is feeling better.”

    “Much better.”

    “I’m so glad. I don’t like it when you’re sick. It’s scary.”

    “Sorry you were scared, babe.”

Sam dried her hands and turned to face him, taking in the scruff on his jaw, the paler-than-usual face and the hazel eyes that burned with desire for her. “Nice to have you back.”

He bent his head to kiss her softly. “I’m still feeling a little achy in some places. I could use some TLC from my wife tonight.”

She laughed at his blatant come-on. “Your wife has been afraid to go near you for fear of contracting the plague.”

“I’m no longer communicable.” Raising his hands to her face, he kissed her more insistently as his erection pressed against her.

All he had to do was look at her and she wanted him, but when he kissed her and touched her this way, she was lost to him every time. But he’d been so sick only yesterday, and her better judgment took over. “Not yet.”

“Hmm?” His lips moved softly over her neck, feeding the fire.

It took all the willpower Sam could muster to gently push on his chest.

“What?” he asked, sounding perplexed because she hardly ever pushed him away, and it was the last thing she wanted to do now.

“You were so sick only yesterday.”

    “I’m fine now.”

    “No, you’re not.”

He rubbed his erection against her, his fingers digging into her hips as he tugged her into his embrace. “I’m fine, Samantha.”

    She shook her head. “No.”

“You’re not seriously saying no to me.”

“First time for everything, my love.”

    Jill’s Review

When I heard of Marie Force’s Fatal Identity I was intrigued. I mean, come on, a Vice President married to a Lieutenant and a great mystery to boot. Sign me up!

I was sucked in as soon as I started this book. I had been a little concerned because I am new to the series… but there was no need. I was intrigued by characters that I am sure play a larger role in other books, but enough information was given that I never felt lost or like I was being distracted by trying to figure things out. Oh wait.. I WAS trying to figure things out… but it had to do with the case that Sam was working! There were twists and turns that kept me guessing throughout the book! I loved how the book combined married life (though complicated because Sam is married to the VICE PRESIDENT) and work life. That is never an easy balance but sometimes gets overlooked in books. How people balance everything. But it was so evident here as Sam tried to care for her family and solve a mystery/scandal that will shock the country!

The love, devotion and support that Sam and Nick show each other just melted my heart. All the characters that appeared were fascinating and aided to the development of the story.

How have I NOT read any of the books in the fatal Series until now?? AHHHHH! That is something I am jumping to rectify. I. Need. More!

This was a great quick read that kept me on my toes!

I received a complimentary copy of Fatal Identity in exchange for my honest review.

Keane Morgan wouldn’t return any of my calls or texts, and I was pissed as hell about it. I didn’t want to drive from Seattle to L.A. with the guy any more than he wanted to drive with me, but I had no frickin’ choice in the matter–at least, not if I wanted to use his brother Dax’s coveted parking spot at UCLA.

Okay, so it turned out Keane was objectively gorgeous, and, fine, pretty funny, too. But did he have to be so damned in love with himself? I mean, jeez, the cocky way he flashed those dimples was just so orchestrated. And, honestly, what kind of guy uses the phrase “baby doll” with a straight face? Oh, that’s right: the kind of guy who’s a male stripper.

Yup, the cocky jerk turned out to be Seattle’s answer to Magic Mike, a stripper known as “Ball Peen Hammer”–which meant Keane Morgan was emphatically not the kind of guy I’d ever fall for.

    Not. At. All.

    No freakin’ way.

Well, until Keane convinced me to fall for him, that is.

    Which I did.

    Hard.

    Excerpt

As they exchange information, I make my way to the end of my aisle and loop into theirs, not taking my eyes off Baby Face the whole time. Shit. This dude’s hunting Maddy so hard, it’s making my blood boil. Jesus, he’s going full-throttle rifle on Maddy’s ass right now, completely foregoing his crossbow altogether.

When I reach the two of them in the middle of their aisle, I shuffle past the dude and stand next to Maddy, shoulder to shoulder, and then, on a sudden impulse, put my arm around her shoulders and squeeze her tight, making her wobble in place at the unexpected jolt to her balance. “Hey, sis,” I say, squeezing her like a rag doll. “You totally fell down on your candy-acquiring duties.”

“I know. I’m sorry.” She subtly wiggles out of my grasp. “Brian and I got into this hilarious argument about the best candy bar of all- time, and—”

“And I’m totally right,” Brian says, cutting her off, and they both chuckle at some inside joke.

“No, I’m totally right,” Maddy corrects.

Brian smiles at her. “I’ll actually be down in L.A. in a month. How ’bout I call you then?”

    “Great.”

“Nice to meet you, man,” Brian says, looking at me. He nods but doesn’t put out his hand.

    I nod back.

Brian strolls away, buys a Snickers bar and a can of Red Bull, and leaves with a little wave to Maddy.

The minute he’s out the door, Maddy takes a giant step away from me, her face etched with annoyance. “What was that?” she asks.

    “What?”

“That weird thing you just did?”

    “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Maddy puts on an exaggerated scowl, like she’s Hulk Hogan eying an opponent. “’Hey, Brian,’” she says in a low voice, clearly intending to imitate me but sounding more like Arnold Schwarzenegger imitating Maddy imitating me. “’I’m Maddy Milliken’s bodyguard and I’m going to beat you the hell up now,’” she adds.

“What are you talking about?” I say, chuckling.

Maddy pauses, assessing me, and finally shrugs. “Nothing. I guess I imagined it.”

    “Imaged what?”

    “Your weird… I dunno… vibe.”

“Oh, well, yeah. I was worried about you.”

“Worried about me? I was standing in a minimart, buying candy. Pretty low-risk activity, I’d say.”

“Uh, you absolutely were not standing in a minimart, buying candy—you totally fell down on that job, dude. You were standing in a minimart, getting picked up by a douche. And second of all—”

    What?”

Shit. What the fuck am I doing? I’ve got to stop this shit right now. “Don’t get riled up, baby doll,” I say in my most soothing voice. “All I’m saying is you took so damned long in here, I started thinking maybe the store was getting robbed or you’d fallen into the toilet or something.”

Maddy twists her mouth. “Brian didn’t seem the least bit douchey to me.”

    I shrug.“What gave you the impression he’s a douche?”

“Just a figure of speech. So are you gonna do the job I hired you to do or not?” I motion to the candy rack. “‘Cause based on your performance thus far, you’re totally fired.”

“And I wasn’t getting ‘picked up,’” Maddy says, her tone full of indignation. “Brian’s brother goes to UCLA. Can’t I talk to a helpful, nice guy without it being some sort of a sleazy pick-up?”

“Sure you can. However, in this instance, you were talking to a helpful, nice guy who was picking you up so he can bone the living fuck outta ya.”

Keane.” Maddy’s cheeks burst with color. “Don’t say that. Oh my god. You’re insane. Brian was just being helpful, that’s all.”

“Yeah, so he can bone the living fuck outta ya.”

“Stop saying that. Please. It’s offensive and absolutely not true. This topic of conversation is officially over.”

    Jill’s Review

Oh my! Lauren Rowe’s Ball Peen Hammer left my cheeks hurting from the huge smile I had on my face the whole time I was reading!

We have Keane Morgan – hottie stripper with the over the top personality and Maddy Milliken – a quiet, reserved girl ready to start her life over. They are brought together by their meddling siblings to take a road trip together. Maddy on her way to start over and go to film school, and Keane to visit his brother and go on an audition.

Their relationship starts off beyond bumpy… Keane is not checking his texts and ignoring Maddy’s introduction. Then when he looks, he has no clue who she is and hilarious texts ensue! And then the road trip begins! It is awkward at first but slowly Keane’s larger than life personality pulls Maddy from her shell and they find it easy to talk to each other. And I mean REALLY talk.. conversations that go on and on and on. You know what that is like – when you just click for whatever reason and lose hours of time talking.

The banter between the characters and I mean all of them- is beyond entertaining. The whole cast of characters are nutty, funny people with hearts of gold. Their family and friends mean everything to them. It is everything I would want from mine – *sigh* that would be so great!

Ball Peen Hammer is a sexy, side-splitting romance that will brighten up your day. I dare you not to smile while reading this book!

I received a complimentary copy of Ball Peen Hammer in exchange for my honest review.

    One word.

    Two letters.

But those two letters changed everything.

It was impossible to predict the impact I would have on the life of the only woman I’d ever truly loved. No way to know that I would result in her ruin.

I’d suffer for eternity with the knowledge that it was me who brought devastation to her doorstep.

Though I deserved the anguish I felt, to see her suffer was unacceptable.

    I would fix this.

Somehow I would prove to her that I wasn’t the monster she thought I was.

Even if it meant becoming a monster in order to make that happen.

    EXCERPT

Then the door swung open and there he was. For a brief moment I was taken by his handsome features—his olive skin and pronounced jaw, the sparkle in his dark eyes, his perfect, straight nose. More than anything, it was the pull that remained between us that surprised me. Like I was a planet still circling his sun.

There was a moment when we locked eyes that the gravity of all that had happened wasn’t weighing heavy between us, and it almost caused me to stumble back.

Then, after the moment of intimacy had passed, I was sure I saw dread slip over his expression. I wasn’t going to stay put and find out though.

I wouldn’t be standing on his doorstep begging for whatever scraps of information he deemed worthy of casting my way. No, I was here to demand what he, at the very least, owed me, and I wouldn’t leave until he gave it to me.

“We need to talk.” I pushed past him, careful not to make contact, and bolted down the hallway toward the living room.

“Emily, this isn’t a good time.” Marco’s footsteps followed quickly behind me.

“I don’t care. Put aside whatever it is you’re doing. I want answers.”

I came to an abrupt stop when I stepped into the living/dining area and found Alexa sprawled across the couch like she was a feast ready to be enjoyed.

Her blouse was half unbuttoned, her legs draped over the cushions, causing her skirt to ride up a bit on her thighs, and her lips slightly swollen. Her lipstick had been rubbed off her mouth and onto her skin. She wore a saccharine smile that I wanted to rip off her face.

I crossed my arms over my chest and turned back to Marco. “Oh, I see. Well, pardon me for interrupting.” There was no disguising the venom in my voice.

His tortured gazed darted from me to her and back a few times before he schooled his features and responded. “Can we have this conversation some other time?” he asked, his voice neutral.

“Marco, who’s this?” Alexa purred from behind me.

I spun to address her with a fake smile on my face. “I’m Emily. We met at the art show a few months ago when I was there with Marco. Back when we were still fucking. You can call me Brandi, though.” I turned to lock gazes with him before finishing. “Everyone who knows me intimately does.”

His fists clenched at his sides and his jaw tightened. Good. Some small part of me was pleased that I was still able to elicit a reaction like that from him.

I swung my attention back to the blonde on the couch. “I’m sorry to swing by unannounced like this and interrupt what was obviously going to be a good time for you both. I just need a few minutes with Marco, and then I’ll be out of your hair.”

Alexa’s eyes narrowed on me for a moment, and though she was playing nice with me—probably for Marco’s benefit—it was clear she wasn’t pleased with the interruption.

“Perhaps I should go,” she said.

“No!” Marco said, whip fast. “Emily should be the one to leave.”

    Not going to lie.

    That stung.

    A lot.

No matter that everything between Marco and I had been based on lies, the fact that I was so easily tossed aside smarted.

“I’m not going anywhere until we speak.” I leveled him with a gaze that told him I was serious.

“Why don’t you use my bathroom to freshen up, Alexa? It’s that way through my bedroom.” He pointed toward the room that we’d spent many a night in. “I’ll meet you there in a few minutes.”

A victorious smile crept across her face, and her gaze swung to me as she rose from the couch. She brushed her fingers across Marco’s chest as she passed him. “Don’t be too long.”

He nodded but didn’t spare her a glance as she passed, his gaze still fixed on me.

As soon as the bedroom door closed, I spoke. “Sorry to interrupt your play time, Marco, but you owe me some answers and I’m ready to collect.”

You know that as soon as I heard that S Moose was releasing a new book that I had to get my hands on it! And Refresh was such an amazing, heartbreaking friends to lovers story. It don’t always make for easy reading but I was glued to the pages.

Caroline and Mason have been friends forever. Best Friends. But there was another person who also existed in that best friend bubble with them. Caroline’s husband, Evan. Their lives are thrown into upheaval after one perfect night, that Evan doesn’t come back from. Mason and Caroline are both grieving hard for Evan… but Caroline has been inconsolable. Evan steps in to help her shoulder the burden of grief.

These are two absolutely broken souls. And as they come together to heal you can feel the sexual tension between them grow. It is a palpable living thing. But both fight it as hard as they can, neither feeling it is proper. Together they will take you on a roller coaster of emotions – their banter will make you laugh, their tension will make you hot, their grief will gut you…. and as they heal so will you.

This is another winner from S Moose. I definitely recommend it – especially if you are looking for a book with feels!

I received a complimentary copy of Refresh in exchange for my honest review.

    Excerpt

“Let me add,” she says with a smirk, “sex and Mason are like desserts.”

    “What?” I burst out laughing.

“Now listen to me. Sex and Mason are like desserts. There are many sides of Mason and sex consists of different positions all of this like dessert. You see a dessert case and there’s everything from fruit tarts to red velvet cake to brownies.”

    “I’m getting hungry now, thanks.”

“Oh shut up,” Tonya laughs and continues with her ridiculous explanation. “These two things go hand in hand. So you can take your time and look at these yummy desserts the way you look at Mason and sex and then when you’re ready you’ll pick the best most delicious dessert and boom, you and Mason will be having boom boom time.”

“I can’t even with you.” I laugh and wipe my tears from laughing so hard. “You’re too much.”

“Dessert equals Mason and sex. Remember, variety and different tastes!”
