Twisted Bond by Emma Hart ~ Blog Tour

TwistedBond_highI’m an Italian-Texan woman in a family full of cops. I’m passionate and shoot before I think. You only f*ck with me if you’re stupid.

Photograph cheating spouses. Hand over the evidence. Cash my check.

That was my plan when I returned home to Holly Woods, Texas, and became a private investigator.

Finding the dead body in my dumpster? Yeah… Given the choice, I think I would have opted out of that little discovery, especially since all three of my brothers are cops. And my Italian grandmother is sure the reason I’m single is because of my job.

Of course, my connection to the victim is entirely coincidental. Until I’m hired by her husband to investigate her murder and shoved bang-smack into the path of Detective Drake Nash.

My nemesis, a persistent pain in my ass, and one hell of a sexy son of a bitch.

Shame he still holds a grudge from that time I shot him in the foot twelve years ago, or we could have something. In another life.

So now all I have to do is avoid my nonna’s blind dates, try not to blackmail my brothers into giving me confidential police files, and absolutely do not point my gun at Drake Nash. Or kiss him. Or jump his bones.

All while I hunt down the killer.

Sounds totally simple—until a second body proves that sometimes things that start as coincidences don’t always end up that way…

(Twisted Bond is book one of the Holly Woods Files series and while it does not end in a cliffhanger, it is not a standalone.)

“Noelle,” Drake calls after me, narrowly avoiding the main door slamming in his face.

“Hold them,” I order when Grecia holds my messages out.

She freezes as I storm past her and up the stairs.

“Noelle—”

“Later!” I yell at Mike, jamming my key into the hole and turning it violently.

“Noelle!” Drake finally growls.

I shove the door open so harshly that it slams into the wall behind it and then fix him with my gaze. “In there. Now.”

His chest heaves, and a long moment passes between us as he stares at me, both Mike and Bekah staring at us from their office doors.

“Did I not make that clear, Detective?” I tilt my head to the side. “Now means now, not in five fucking minutes.”

Drake’s in front of me in two long strides. “Watch your damn attitude, Noelle,” he warns me quietly, his breath skating across my cheek. “You might get away with sassin’ your family, but you won’t with me.”

“When you’re on my property, I’ll do whatever the hell I want.” I lower my voice. “And you might not realize it, but I’ve been shitting myself ever since I saw that body yesterday, so unless you want me to rip out a pair of stilettos and tear you a new asshole until you’re forced to tell me what I need to know, you’ll drag your ass into my office.”

“Another threat.” He whips his handcuffs out and dangles them in my face. “Want me to use ’em, ma’am?”

I step closer to him, moving the cupcake box out of the way of our bodies, and fix him with a stare that I know is as potent as his. “I dare you to try, sir.”

We stand off against each other, barely a few inches separating our bodies. My heart is thumping in my chest, and hell, I’m turned on. My lower stomach is burning, and the heat is seeping between my legs because all I can think about is Detective Drake Nash putting me in handcuffs.

He lowers the restraints and attaches them to his belt again. Then he nudges me away from the door and slams it shut with his foot. I open my mouth to speak, but he grabs my arm and spins me against the solid wood surface. I gasp and drop the cupcake box as my back collides with the door and his chest presses against mine.

“Don’t ever dare me, Noelle,” he whispers, his tone thick with a seduction that crawls over my skin and joins the heat between my legs. “Because if I get you in cuffs, there’ll be no trying about it. You’ll be beggin’ for it, babe. Keep getting up close and personal and that’ll be sooner rather than later.”

“You wish,” I breathe. Yes. I do. I damn well do.

He dips his head so his mouth is hovering above mine, and every breath coats my lips. “I couldn’t give a fuck if we’re smack-damn in the middle of a murder investigation. You keep pushin’ me the way you are and I will take you. I’m not afraid to give you a real reason to shout my name.”

“You give me a hundred reasons every day.”

“’Bout time I gave you a good one, don’t you think?”

Good logic. Bad execution. “No. I don’t. I think you should tell me what I need to know.”

“I just did,” he murmurs.

TB TEASE 1
REVIEW
Jill’s Review
Twisted Bond by Emma Hart is a witty and engaging Romantic Suspense novel.

Noelle Bond is a feisty, independent PI who grew up in a family of cops. She is strong and passionate about everything she does from dodging her nonna’s matchmaking to solving a case to eating cupcakes! Hell, even her clashes with her nemesis, Detective Drake Nash, send sparks flying all over the place! Her PI business is mainly built around tracking cheating spouses. But now 2 bodies have ended up dead on her property. Not really what she had in mind when she moved back home to Holly Woods, Texas and opened up her practice!

Emma Hart captivated me with her writing style. The story line drove the novel but while it was a romantic suspense it was also written in such a witty style. There were many moments that had me laughing out loud. It is written from Noelle’s POV, and it is just pure refreshing! You really feel as if you are hearing right from her. Noelle’s personality and voice is so unique it just shines through the words. It truly helped to MAKE this book. From the way she interacts with her friends and colleagues to her weakness for cupcakes to the inevitable chemistry between her and Drake, the way it is portrayed through her words just gives it that extra spark to keep it fresh and spicy.

The mystery of the story had me intrigued from the beginning and kept me guessing right up until Noelle had it figured out (which I have to say is pretty impressive!) The twists and turns the case took were great. I didn’t want to put the book down. The characters that filled Twisted Bond were so colorful and entertaining. I can’t wait to see them again in future books in this series. The entire Bond family is a riot. The way nonna talks to them and wants to set Noelle up. Too Much! OMG! She is a pistol! But the way they look out for one another is endearing and I hope that we get to see more of that. The relationship between the employees/friends at the PI firm was fun to watch as well. And oooh.. the tension and sparks that flew whenever Drake and Noelle got anywhere near each other! I love when there are just a host of well done characters, and Emma Hart definitely delivered here.

If you like a bit of mystery, with a side of romance and wit make sure to snatch this one up! You will not be able to put it down!

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

“Why are you here?”
He pulls his ear defenders down. “Out here?”
“Here.” I yank off my ear defenders. “At my parents’ for family dinner. Out here, bugging me. Take your pick. I’ll take a reason for either.”
“Your nonna appears to have taken a real good likin’ to me. If I didn’t know better, I’d say she’s tryna set us up.”
“Clearly, she’s losin’ her mind,” I snap, reloading my gun again before tucking it back into my boot. I fold my arms and meet his eyes. “And out here? Why are you here?”
Nothing. Just silence. Just those goddamned beautiful eyes boring into mine.
“No? Okay.” I walk past him, pushing hair from my face.
“Don’t go out with him again.” His arm shoots out to stop me, and his words hit me hard. “Gio.”
“Since when has it been any of your business what I do?” I face him, narrowing my eyes as our gazes collide. “Last I checked, I’m a single, grown woman, and if I want to go out with someone, I will.”
“He’s not the kind of guy you need.”
“Neither are you,” I reply, running my eyes down his white shirt, which is untucked over his dark-blue jeans. The bottom of his shirt is gaping, allowing me a view of a triangle of tan skin with a smattering of dark hair. I linger there for a moment before pulling my gaze back up. “Yet here we are, having this conversation, you thinkin’ you know what’s best for me.”

“Get out!” I yell, my voice hoarse.

“I’m sorry?” Drake recoils.

“Get out. Of my building,” I add, moving toward him as he walks backward. “If you don’t have a warrant in your ass pocket, get the fuck out. Now.”

He grabs my wrist and pulls me into him. “Listen to me, cupcake. Someone got real lucky last night, and that someone was you. You weren’t here when your killer wanted you to be. Yeah, I said yours. They know you’re waitin’ for ‘em. Most nights you’d be here, right? But last night, because I pissed your ass off, you weren’t. Know what that tells me?”

“I’m sure you’re gonna tell me,” I manage through gritted teeth.

“It tells me this killer is watching you. You ain’t safe. They’re waiting to strike, and it’s gonna be the second you’re alone. We’re close. I can feel it. You’re their target now. And this killer? They want to kill you.”

“No shit,” I whisper, looking away from him. “I won’t back down. I don’t care what you say. They can try and kill me. I’ve dealt with worse.”

“Stop being a pain in my ass.” He grabs my chin and forces me to look into his eyes and all their devastatingly icy glory. “Someone. Wants. To. Kill. You.”

“I know.”

“Yet you don’t care.”

“I care,” I whisper, holding his gaze. “But did you ever think that I’m your best bet at catching this person? If they’re watching me, if they want to kill me, they’re there. Waitin’, like you said. And that means they’re gonna come to me. Not you. Not anyone else. Me.”

“Yeah, I thought it. But I don’t like it.”

“Ain’t your job to like it, Detective. It’s your job to deal with it.”

“You’re right. It ain’t my job to like it, but I ain’t exactly dealing with it either.”

“What the hell does that mean?”

“It means,” he leans in, his touch relaxing just a smidge, “It means that I don’t like it. I’m not dealin’ with it. And the thought of you bein’ in the kinda danger you are scares the ever-lovin’ fuckin’ shit out of me.”
