REVIEW

Jill’s Review

I have been reading since I am a teeny tiny girl. Well now, that sounds dumb now, doesn’t it? I mean I have been a READER. From the time I first learned to read if you were looking for me, you would be most likely to find me hiding somewhere off by myself with a book in my hand. And my favorites were fairytales. I have a book of fairytales that is so well loved… I think I read from it every night for a few years… I just couldn’t get enough. But my all time favorite fairytale has always been The Little Mermaid— in every form the tale has come in… story, cartoon, musical, Disney… I just can’t get enough. If you walk into my room, you will see elements from The Little Mermaid throughout it. So of course you know I had to jump at the chance to read Katy Regnery’s Don’t Speak!

One of my favorite things about books like this is seeing how authors handle these modern retellings of classic fairytales. They all handle it so differently. I have been loving the entire Modern Fairytale series that Kay Regnery has been putting out and this one may be my favorite one yet! I love the spin that she puts on them, letting me completely lose myself in these stories and then just smile as a reference to the classic fairytale comes up.

We have Laire… our innocent girl., the daughter of a fisherman. She is our ‘little mermaid.’ When she first meets Erik, the governor’s sons, it is like two worlds colliding. While it might not be under the sea and land their worlds are so different it just as well may be. Laire is from a tiny island that is steeped in tradition. She is sheltered here and doesn’t encounter all of the same modern amenities and experiences that those on the mainland do. When Laire and Erik meet as teens, their connection is instantaneous. On the surface they have nothing in common… they were raised completely differently. But to them none of that matters.. they only see each other and the connection they have. Until people and circumstances tear them apart. Then years later during a stormy night, they find each other once again. Will their love be strong enough to make up for all the hurt, misunderstandings and years that have passed between them?

I loved watching their relationship grow. Watching Laire blossom from a shy, innocent girl to a strong young woman who can stand on her own. Watching Erik trust in himself and follow his heart to find happiness. I was captivated from the very first page and transported to this world that Katy Regnery created. Swept away with the tides as I pictured myself on the island with Laire and how different it would be and to have that desire to want something more to be a part of that great big world out there.

I highly recommend this one. For me not only did this have that magical spark it also had the romance, the sweetness and all of the emotion. Don’t miss out on this modern fairytale retelling of The Little Mermaid.

I received a complimentary copy of Don’t Speak.

(Excerpt from DON’T SPEAK, a modern fairytale by Katy Regnery. Inspired by “The Little Mermaid.” All rights reserved.)

“Hey!”

She heard his voice before she saw him.

Had she known the ultimate cost of that simple glance heavenward, maybe she wouldn’t have stopped. Maybe she would have just kept on walking with her head down. But fate held no warnings for Laire Maiden Cornish.

Shielding her eyes, she looked up at a deck wrapped around the second floor of the mansion, waiting a moment for her eyes to adjust as he came into view.

There, in the glittering sunlight . . . a boy.

No, a man.

A young man, a little older than she, tall and muscular, with jet-black hair and a square jaw, dark brown eyes, and a deep tan. He wore a robin’s-egg blue bathing suit with Kelly green palm fronds in a small repeat and a pair of sunglasses buried in his thick hair. In one hand, he held a phone up to his ear, and in the other, he slowly swirled a glass filled with ice and clear liquid. He stared out at the sound, concentrating on his call.

“Hey!” he yelled. “Can you hear me now?” He huffed with annoyance, pulling the phone away from his ear and squinting at it before trying again. “Pete? It’s Erik. Can you hear me?” He set the glass down on the balcony’s wooden railing and gave his phone his full attention. Staring down at it, he muttered, “Shit. No reception.”

It’s Erik.

Erik.

His name is Erik.

Feeling a sharp burn in her lungs, Laire realized she’d been holding her breath and sucked in a huge gulp of air as she stared up at him, frozen in the moment, utterly mesmerized.

She had never seen a more perfect, more handsome person in her entire life.

The sun glinted off his dark hair and wrapped his body in gold, making him appear godlike so very far above her. Were she the type to swoon, Laire imagined she would have been a puddle of goopy longing on the ground below him, content to sacrifice her pride for a glimpse at his beauty.

Royally Matched by Emma Chase ~ Review Blitz

RM-FB-on-sale-5

Royally-Matched-3D-bookSome men are born responsible, some men have responsibility thrust upon them. Henry Charles Albert Edgar Pembrook, Prince of Wessco, just got the motherlode of all responsibility dumped in his regal lap.

He’s not handling it well.

Hoping to force her grandson to rise to the occasion, Queen Lenora goes on a much-needed safari holiday—and when the Queen’s away, the Prince will play. After a chance meeting with an American television producer, Henry finally makes a decision all on his own:

Welcome to Matched: Royal Edition.

A reality TV dating game show featuring twenty of the world’s most beautiful blue bloods gathered in the same castle. Only one will win the diamond tiara, only one will capture the handsome prince’s heart.

While Henry revels in the sexy, raunchy antics of the contestants as they fight, literally, for his affection, it’s the quiet, bespectacled girl in the corner—with the voice of an angel and a body that would tempt a saint—who catches his eye.

The more Henry gets to know Sarah Mirabelle Zinnia Von Titebottum, the more enamored he becomes of her simple beauty, her strength, her kind spirit…and her naughty sense of humor.

But Rome wasn’t built in a day—and irresponsible royals aren’t reformed overnight.

As he endeavors to right his wrongs, old words take on whole new meanings for the dashing Prince. Words like, Duty, Honor and most of all—Love.

REVIEW

Jill’s Review

I am truly a sucker for books with royal storylines. It must go back to those days of my childhood when I used to dress up and pretend to be a princess (there is no way I still have those dreams or a stray tiara hanging around 😉 ) So you know I was going to scoop up Emma Chase’s Royally Matched — just check out that blurb!

We have a prince not ready for his new role, not dealing with it all too well who decides ooooh let’s just meet a ton of chicks instead! Don’t worry — they all come from good ole blue blood and he does it with the utmost class — on a reality show being filmed at his place. Of course he falls for the one person who isn’t a part of the show.

I was totally enchanted with this romantic comedy. I loved every bit of it. They appeared to be complete opposites  yet they completely got each other. Their moments together were just perfection. I just loved watching their friendship grow and progress. Watching them open up to each other and let their walls down.

I definitely recommend this one. If you are looking for a fun, romantic, enchanting read that will have you laughing and swooning then you don’t want to miss this one!

I received a complimentary copy of Royally Matched.

synopsis

A killer . . . that’s what I am.

It’s what I do.

It’s what I live for.

I’m no longer the Preston Hale everyone knew. I left that life and the people in it a long time ago the second I made my first kill. I wasn’t going to give in, but when I heard the screams there was no going back.

It triggered the pain, the need.

I knew what I had to do, and I did it well. But I never expected for Emma Turner – the only link to my past – to come back into my life.

She triggers a different emotion inside me, something I hadn’t ever felt.

It’s not a want to kill . . . but a need to CLAIM.

excerpt

When I got downstairs to the dining room, Glenn and Wade were already there, speaking to each other in hushed tones by the large window. There were shiny plates on the table, with all sorts of silverware around them. Start from the outside and work your way in, was what I was told when it came to using the various forks and spoons. Give me just one of each and I’d be happy.

It wasn’t long before Glenn noticed me at the door and the conversation ceased. “Emma, you look lovely tonight,” he announced.

I smiled. “Thank you.”

He beckoned me over to the table and Wade held out a seat for me. I sat down and he took the one on the right, while Glenn sat on my left at the head of the table. There was only one other place setting and it was across from me.

“Wine?” Glenn asked, holding up the bottle.

I nodded. “Sure.”

He poured me a glass and I took a sip. It tasted like heaven, all fruity and crisp. It was so good I had to take another sip, and another, while we waited on the special guest. Not even a minute later, the dining room door opened and a man walked in. Only, he wasn’t just anyone.

It’d been eight years and he’d surely changed, but there was no mistaking those gray eyes. His hair was the same light brown, and mussed up like all the guys did their hair these days. However, his body looked totally different. His cream colored, long-sleeve sweater hugged a set of muscular arms, and his face was more rugged, covered in a five o’clock shadow.

I almost choked on my wine. “Oh my God.” Is it really him?

“Emma, are you okay?” Wade asked, his voice low.

“Yeah,” I whispered. “I’m fine.”

I waited for Preston to look at the table, and when his gaze finally caught mine, he paused for a slight second. In his face, I could see the friend I lost so long ago, but it vanished quickly.

Glenn and Wade both stood when Preston approached, and I shot up out of my seat, bumping the table with my jerky movements. Glenn grinned at me and then at Preston. “Preston Hale, I’d like you to meet Emma Turner. She’s my assistant. Emma, this is Preston Hale, a close family friend. His father is one of my dearest friends.”

Preston held out his hand and looked at me as if he’d never laid eyes on me before. “It’s nice to meet you.”

Was he being serious? I shook his hand and made sure to put a little extra squeeze in there for good measure. “Meet me? Surely, you remember who I am.”

Glenn’s eyes went wide. “Wait. You two already know each other?”

I nodded. “From college.” I was about to add before he up and left without a trace, but thought better of it.

Glenn chuckled and smacked a hand on Preston’s shoulder. “Well, isn’t this a small world? You’ll have to tell me some stories on this one.” He nodded my way.

Preston’s jaw clenched. “Can’t. Don’t remember her.”

My mouth dropped open; it was like being punched in the gut and slapped in the face, all at the same time. No words would come out, so I sat there with a lump in my throat. In college, he’d been a close friend. I sang with him in his band, Silent Break. We connected on stage in a way I’d never felt with anyone. I cared about him, and had even been ready to take the next step in our relationship right before he up and disappeared. I never got to tell him how I felt. Now he looked at me as if I was a stranger.

The room fell silent. I wanted to say something, but I bit my tongue. It was going to be the longest dinner of my life.
