SYNOPSIS:

Daniella Alvarez and Dylan McKendrie used to be in love. They used to be a team. An inseparable force to be reckoned with. But, when tragedy struck, their relationship sank faster than the ships they used to scour the ocean floor for. Now all that’s left are scattered remains of what used to be.

Dylan, no longer seeking the mysteries on the ocean floor, now goes for the sure things and the guaranteed paychecks. When a longtime friend suggests he has hard proof that one of those legends that used to keep Dylan up at night could be real, he’s torn between going after the gold and maintaining the life he’d built since leaving The Florida Keys.

Daniella was always a dreamer. She’s always been chasing what would most deem unattainable—professionally and personally. Everything she’d ever wanted seemed to slip through her fingers the day he left, which is exactly why his return has her seeing red.

Can the two of them put their past aside long enough to figure out a mystery that has plagued them both for years? Can they work together to see what lies below the surface?

“Would you wait just a goddamn second,” I said when I finally caught up to her. She was halfway to the ocean and just about to sit down in the sand to pout. Just like her. Things get a little heated and she’s running for the water to avoid an actual conversation.

“Why? So you can tell me how I’m wasting my time on ghosts. How I just chase every lead I get without thinking things through?” A part of me wanted to put my hand over her mouth and shut her up, but another part of me reasoned I could do the same with my lips. The urge to kiss her had my blood overheating. “Like I said before…We. Don’t. Need. You.”

“Oh you need me,” I said with a smirk.

“No I don’t,” she quickly replied. “You left and I’ve been doing just fine.”

“I’m not talking about you in particular, Miss Impulsive.”

“Oh.” She paused for a second but quickly recovered. “I know you’re not talking about me.”

“I’m talking about that fact that I have the boat,” I pointed out. “I have the equipment you need to bring this so called ship up out of the water.”

“Whatever. I can find a boat anywhere.” She crossed her arms across her chest and glared.

“Oh yeah. That right? ‘Cause from what I’ve heard, the only boat you’ve been on lately comes equipped with a snorkel and tourists.”

“Keeping tabs on me, McKendrie?” The edge in her tone was sharp enough to raise the hairs on my arms. I might have occasionally asked Cal about her, but I wasn’t going to fess up at that moment. “Can’t imagine that you could even be bothered to check on what you left behind.” Her words stung just as badly as I expected them to.

“I shouldn’t.” I was still pissed too. If she wanted to play who can be the bigger asshole, I was going to win. I was part Irish and there wasn’t a chance in hell that I was going to let her get the better of me. She wasn’t the only one with a fiery temper. “Not a damn thing has changed.”

“You’re an asshole.”

“I’ve been called worse.” I took a step toward her. “Probably by you.”

“I can guarantee that,” she said between gritted teeth. The ever present noise of the ocean, the sound of traffic and the island town vanished as we held each other’s stare.

The two of us stood inches from each other on that beach. The tide rolled in over our feet and I was so mad that I didn’t even care that my best pair of boots were wet. The sand and surf were bearing witness to a good old fashion showdown. I could practically see the steam rolling off of her as I tightened my gaze.

Her lips were parted, words threatening to tear into me, but neither of us spoke. Instead, we just waited for the other to break.

Chayse McCade learned along time ago that the only person she can depend on, both on and off the motocross track, is herself. Her parents disappointed her on more than one occasion and every relationship she’s ever had—platonic, professional, or romantic—has ended in disaster. When a sponsorship offer from Throttled Energy comes along she worries that it’s too good to be true. Especially when she meets the know-it-all riding coach they are insisting she work with.

Hoyt Travers is a lot of things. Level headed, discerning, intelligent, patient, or so he thought. That is until his new riding student rolled into his life. She’s wild, unpredictable, and gorgeous—all of which she uses to get under his skin in every possible way.

The two of them have undeniable, explosive chemistry that threatens to burn both of their dreams to the ground. Once Chayse lets Hoyt in, she can’t seem to keep her protective walls up anymore. Too bad there’s a hard rule about them being anything more than colleagues. Hoyt never steps outside the lines but Chayse will push him in more ways than one. Lines will be irrevocably blurred in the final installment of the Wild Riders series.

THROTTLED EXCERPT

The rumble of dirt bike motors still made my pulse speed up and I wasn’t even the one racing them. Just being at the track made me feel like I was a part of it though. A part of the excitement. A part of the thrill. Sometimes I took pictures. Sometimes I just watched in awe of the athletes manipulating metal and rubber across the dirt. There was nothing sexier than a man on his bike, even all covered up with a helmet and riding gear. I knew the way his forearms flexed as he revved his bike and gripped the handles, and the way his thighs squeezed the bike tight as he took a turn.

I sighed and took in a deep breath trying not to look like I was about to go into heat. It wasn’t just any guy on a bike that did it for me either. One in particular was leading the pack on the final lap. Every other guy was trying to catch the one with TRAVERS on the back of his jersey.

I wanted to hate him. I wanted to leave that race and not care about watching him finish, but it felt like my feet were stuck in the mud. I was a slave to the race and rider. I always had been when it came to watching him. It was like watching someone do exactly what they were put on this earth to do. Reid Travers was made to ride motocross and I was made to be his number one fan. Even history couldn’t change that fact.

When the checkered flag flew and he took his victory lap—pulling off his goggles so he could stare out at the crowd—his piercing brown eyes found me and held onto me as he rode over to where I was standing.

“You came?” he said when he pulled of his helmet.

Not yet. The dirty thought that ran through my head resulted in my cheeks turning five shades of pink before settling on a deep red.

WHIPPED EXCERPT

“Enough about him,” I said, taking my fingertips across the top of Brett’s arm which was laid out across the back of the couch. I traced along some of the black ink that laced his skin. Never in my life had I thought I’d be attracted to a guy with tattoos, but I was becoming quite a fan. Each one was a story that I couldn’t wait to hear about. The tire track and gears were self-explanatory, but there were other ones hidden in the design.

“What’s this one represent?” I asked, stopping on a simple star. I felt his muscles tense under my touch. Goosebumps splayed across his skin. I was glad I wasn’t the only one. Each time he touched me I wondered if he felt the same. Now I knew.

“Home,” he said. “The Lone Star State.” That made sense.

“And this one? Is it an acorn?”

“Yep, because I’m a little squirrelly.”

“Fitting.” I grinned at his ability to not take himself too seriously. I turned his arm over to read the line of text running down the center of his forearm.

When we let go, we are free.

“It’s true,” he murmured.

“I hope so.” There were so many scenarios in my life where I imagined those words were true. It was actually the letting go part that I was having a hard time with. I would keep trying though. I’d start with being more free with him.

“So what do you want to do now?” I offered up my most seductive smile. I wasn’t even sure if I was doing it right. I was definitely out of practice when it came to seducing a guy. I remembered what my sister said about it being okay to be selfish. Selfishly, I wanted to kiss him. I wanted to touch him.

“For starters…” he said, leaning toward me. His fingers threaded in my hair as he pulled my face the rest of the way to his. His lips were on mine possessively. He kissed me until we were forced to break for a breath.

CLUTCHED EXCERPT

“You can’t even look at me now?” I couldn’t help myself from closing the distance between her. I didn’t want her to hate me. I didn’t want her to wish for time apart. Maybe I was an asshole, but I wanted her to know that everything I was doing was for her own good. “Chayse…” I said, reaching out and placing my hand on her waist. My self-control was wearing thin. I couldn’t stop myself.  I didn’t want to stop myself. “Look at me.”

“Why?” she said, finally turning her eyes on me. “So you can tell me to stay away from Link? So you can tell me to my face how much of a disappointment I am?” Her eyes were starting to gloss over and all I wanted to do was pull her into my arms. This is not what I had wanted to do to her. I wasn’t trying to break her. I was trying to make her better. “So you can tell me I’m blowing your big shot and mine too?”

“No,” I said, placing my other hand on her hip. “You’re not a disappointment.” My lips were dry as I watched her swallow. The tension in her neck was inviting. I wanted to place my mouth on her skin and take it away. “Far from it.”

“Then what do you want from me?” she asked, her voice sounded far more vulnerable than it ever had. I had her in my grasp and knew that I was holding something far more than just her body in my fingertips.

God, what did I want from her? I wanted her to blow the competition out of the fucking water—my brother included. I wanted to see her ride the way I knew she could, to see her smile what I knew would be a radiant fucking megawatt smile after she took that victory lap.

But right now, I wanted…

I wanted…

Her.

Jennifer’s Reviews

THROTTLED

I have a new BBF!!!

Elizabeth Lee has done it again! She captured my attention with Where There’s Smoke and I’ve been hooked since. Throttled pulled me in from the prologue and kept my attention the entire way through – it was thrilling and a ride I didn’t want to stop.
I absolutely fell head over heels for Reid Travers, motocross champion who’s coming home again. To his roots. To where it all began for him.
Nora Bennett never left Halstead. Is living a life she’s fairly content with, still trying to forget about her first love.

So, Reid. He is just swoony-worthy! Everything about him I truly adored. Aside from the fact that he’s a hot as hell motocross champion, he’s also determined, strong-willed, sweet, kind, and generous. I love his reason for moving home!! Ahhh!!

Nora cracks me up. I think so many of us can identify with Nora – she’s stubborn, sassy, adorable and funny. She gives as good as she gets and when she knows what she wants? She goes after it. To hell with what anyone thinks.

Reid and Nora’s connection is so electric and fire-y. It was one that you could just FEEL through the entire book. I teared up, I giggled and fanned myself through the deliciously steamy parts.

Throttled is the ULTIMATE second-chance romance. I felt connected to the characters from the beginning and didn’t want to see the end. I can’t wait for more from this series!

WHIPPED

I’m hooked. I admit it. I can’t even let myself be sad about it. The Wild Riders series is deliciously unique and I can’t seem to get enough!!

Brett and Georgia’s story is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. To see the two grow and adapt to life together is beautiful. I love their playful relationship and witty banter. Their sexy, steamy scenes kept me interested and flipping the pages as quickly as possible.

It was another amazing story by the talented Elizabeth Lee!!!

CLUTCHED

Spicy & Fun – loved it!!

I make no secret that I adore the Wild Rider’s series. From the very beginning I was sucked into the wild motocross lifestyle.

I must say, usually when I read a series I tend to favor one of the set of characters over the rest but with this series I can honestly say that wasn’t the case. Every single character was unique and flawed in their own way – it made each book so much more enjoyable to read!!

Elizabeth developed Hoyt and Chayse in a way I didn’t see coming – both were so similar, feisty, spunky, vulnerable. I loved their banter, their push and pull. It was absolutely wonderful.

Clutched was a perfect end to the Wild Rider’s series – as much as I hated to see them go, it wrapped up so perfectly!!

Another great one by Elizabeth Lee!!

EXCERPT

“Follow me,” I said, taking Carter’s hand in mine.  It had been forty-eight hours since I’d learned about Mark’s death.  The police investigation hadn’t turned up anything, so for the time being the security team was still watching me like a hawk.  Whoever had killed Mark seemed to be laying low, nothing of any concern had happened since.

I was making a concentrated effort to not let everything that had happened affect who I was.  Or who I wanted to be.  I wanted to be the girl that believed the police would do their job and everything would be okay.  I wanted to be the girl that enjoyed the beginnings of a new relationship with a great guy.  Carter had been very supportive over the last couple days.  He’d made sure to check in with me regularly and kept an ever watchful eye out for anything suspicious.

I offered up a playful smile as we made our way down the hall from the Scarlet Ballroom.  The two of us had met with Alison to discuss the menu and table layout for the wedding.  Trent was notably absent.  I hadn’t seen him since Carter had whisked me out of the security office.  A part of me knew it was for the best, but another kept waiting for him to rush in and declare his innocence.

Alison was unusually chatty that morning—reiterating how ecstatic she was about becoming Mrs. Crawford.  Luckily, Carter was on his game that morning.  He’d been more accommodating than I felt like being and even had an idea that would make the flow of service move more quickly for the wait staff.  And while a part of me was grateful that he had such an eye for detail, I’d silently cursed myself for not thinking of it in the first place.  Just another sign that my head wasn’t in the game like it used to be.  I was supposed to be groomed and ready to take over as the C.O.O. of The Wellesley-Crawford Hotel, not flouting around like some rookie event planner.

Not that I didn’t have a somewhat justifiable reason.  Just when I thought I was finally coming down from everything that happened the night of the Gala, Carter showed up.  Then Trent showed up. My shit show love life took precedence over every logical thought I once had in my head. That was until I realized someone was stalking me and now possibly involved in the murder of a man I went on a date with.  If this is what it was like to have a full plate, I needed to start a diet as soon as possible.

My head was still spinning.  I hadn’t had a moment to myself and it was starting to affect me.  My current company excluded, having a body guard up my ass twenty-four-seven was really cramping my style.  I knew that I needed one to be safe, but I’d always been a do-as-I-please kind of girl.  Now I was asking permission to use the restroom in my own hotel.

“Where are we going?” he asked, pulling my body to a halt. The guard tasked with keeping tabs on me believed I was still in the inside ballroom, so I needed to move fast if I wanted a moment alone with Carter.

He brushed up against my side and firmly planted his lips on my neck before kissing up to my ear.  “God, you smell amazing,” he whispered, before a bellhop turned the corner catching us both by surprise.  We both straightened up as if we weren’t about to rip each other’s clothes off. The sexual tension had been building between us since our last encounter, unfortunately, time or convenience hadn’t been on our side. Both of us had been swamped with work and conflicting schedules. Stolen kisses and the occasional embrace were all we’d managed to work in over the last few days. Not to mention, any time he did stop by my suite, the thought of a bodyguard sitting outside my door and knowing exactly what we were doing kind of killed the mood. Today was different though. Today I was making it a priority to get some quality time with him.

EXCERPT

He walked around the chair he’d been leaning on and took a seat in front of my desk.  I expected him to lean back and assume an arrogant position of detachment, but instead he rested his elbows on my desk like he was anxiously awaiting a quick response from me.  I felt my brow furrow as I tried to read his expression.

“What do you want me to say?” I finally spoke. His lips formed a seam and I watched him sigh.  “Do you want me to beg you to stay? To ask you to be with me instead of marrying her? Because I’m not going to make that mistake again,” I added. “There’s nothing between us besides a business relationship. You made that perfectly clear when you left me alone and in tears for the umpteenth time.”

I’d done some serious soul searching since our last interaction and, slowly but surely, I was seeing that Trent Crawford was not the right man for me.

“I would never expect you to beg, Hannah,” he confessed. “I just wanted to let you know.”

“Well, thanks, I guess.” When he saw that I was unaffected by his words, he let his back fall against the chair.  “Does that mean that you are backing out of the running for C.O.O. or are you still planning on stealing that from me too?”

“It’s not that simple, Han–” he started, but quickly changed the subject. “Exactly what else did I steal from you?”

“Oh, I don’t know. My sanity for one thing.”

“You know that I never set out to do that.” As much as I didn’t want to believe him, I did.  A fact that pissed me off. I had every reason to believe that the game he’d been playing was intentional. “If it makes you feel any better, I feel the same way. Like I’m losing my mind when I’m around you. I think we’ve both let our emotions get the best of us.”

A week ago I would have spoken up and tried to get him to see that the way we felt around each other was more than coincidence—that it was the universe’s way of telling us we should be together, but the universe was apparently off its meds.  For whatever reason, Trent was still marrying Alison this weekend and nothing I said was going to change that.

“This is why I have to go,” he reiterated. Staring into his eyes, I knew just how easy it would be to climb across that desk and get him to put his hands on me. To kiss me. Hell, to probably even get him to clear it off and have sex with me. But, I knew that it would just end with him walking away.  It seemed to always end that way with us.

EXCERPT

Yes.

I was finally going to find out if it was him. I knew it was. It had to be. Everything that had happened with Trent had been a mistake. Carter was the guy I wanted. He was going to take the memories of Trent away.

“Baby…” Carter mumbled against my lips, before removing them and pressing his forehead against mine. “We gotta slow down.”

“No,” I urged. “We really don’t.” I pulled his lips back to mine. “I want this. I want you,” I pleaded, hearing the desperation in my voice. I needed to know the truth.

“So do I,” he assured me before taking a step back. He grabbed my hands and caught his breath. “Really I do, but I think we should slow down. I don’t want you to do something you’d regret.”

“Never stopped me before,” I said with a playful wink. I hadn’t let fear or regret stop me in the stairwell. Or in my apartment last night which would have been a good damn time for it to do so.

“Oh, really.” He chuckled.

“Really.” I stared up into his eyes waiting for him to just admit that it was him the night of the Gala, but he didn’t. Instead, he pulled me to my feet and wrapped his arms around my waist. His head fell to my shoulder as he tightened his embrace. “This will happen, Hannah. Just not in my office with the entire staff of my restaurant waiting on the other side of the door. I’ll teach you to be patient, sweetheart,” he whispered.

Author Bio:

Born and raised in the middle of a Midwestern cornfield (not literally, that would be weird), I’ve spent my entire life imagining stories. Stories where the right guy always gets the right girl, first kisses are as magical as they are on the big screen and anything is completely possible if you believe.

Although this journey began years ago, it recently took on a whole new life. After years of devouring hundreds of Romance, YA and New Adult novels, I had an epiphany… I should write a book. And I did it!

If I’m not reading, writing, enjoying drinks with my amazing group of girlfriends or chasing around a sarcastically funny kid, I’m probably watching television shows that were created for teenagers, while my husband teases that I’m too old to watch them.
