    empire smash cover art

    I have lost everything.

    My purpose

    My love

    My soul

Death knocks on my door, I want to answer, but every time I reach for the handle — the promise I made her brings me back.

    So I breathe.

    I live.

    I hate.

And I allow the anger to oil beneath the surface of a perfectly indifferent facade. I am broken, I don’t want to be fixed.

But the Empire is crumbling and it’s my job to fix it.

My job to mend the pieces that were scattered over thirty years ago.

A trip to New York, only one chance to redeem a lost part of our mafia family.

The only issue is, the only way to fix it, is to do something I swore I’d never do again.

    An arranged marriage.

    Only this time.

    I won’t fall.

Or so help me God, I will kill her myself.

My name is Sergio Abandonoto, you think you know my pain, my suffering, my anger, my hate?

    You have no idea.

    I am the mafia.

    I am the darkness.

    Blood in. No out.

    EXCERPT

“Taxi.” I held up my hand. “It’s too cold to walk.”

    “Is it?”

“For those of us who have hearts,” I said under my breath.

He paused and then burst out laughing. “Holy shit, was that a dig at me?”

I shrugged as the taxi pulled up.

“Damn, and you’re not even apologizing.”

“It was more of a passing comment under my breath…” I got into the taxi and slid across the cold, worn vinyl seat. “But true.”

Sergio slammed the door after him. “And here I thought I was making a good impression.”

“You offered to kill me if I kissed you.”

The taxi driver frowned into the rearview mirror.

    “She’s kidding,” Sergio reassured him.

I refused to let him get off that easy. “You also look at me like you want to throw up.”

    Mr. Taxi Driver’s nostrils flared.

“Uh.” Sergio laughed uncomfortably. “I just have a lot on my mind.”

    “The wife.”

Taxi Driver’s eyes looked like they were going to bug out of his head. Yeah, this was probably the best entertainment he’d had all day.

“I don’t talk about it,” Sergio said in a drop-the-subject voice.

    “Maybe you should.”

“I have enough money to afford a therapist, thank you,” he said through clenched teeth.

“Money doesn’t buy happiness,” I fired back.

Sergio released a string of pithy curses. “Did someone spike your milk this morning during show and tell?”

    “Lactose intolerant.”

“Sorry. Your Kool-Aid.” His eyes narrowed. “It’s like you’re trying to piss me off.”

Bingo. I smiled. “Funny, that’s what Dante says to me all the time. Just think of all the things you get to look forward to. Isn’t that what you said you wanted?”

Sergio looked ready to strangle me. “No. I don’t believe I asked for an annoying little sister, but if that’s what you’re offering, please don’t let me stop you. Just know, I won’t hesitate to put you over my knee if you get out of hand.”

The minute the words left his mouth. I froze.

    He froze.

The taxi driver stared little laser-like holes into the rearview mirror.

    And Sergio leaned toward me.

I swallowed as tension swirled around us.

He gripped me by the chin and turned my head to the side, his lips brushing my ear. “It’s like you have a death wish.”

    “You wouldn’t do it.”

He pulled back as both of his eyebrows shot up, and then he looked down, like something had caught his eye.

I followed the direction of his gaze and let out a little gasp as a gun dug into my stomach.

“It’s been directed at you for the last four minutes,” Sergio said through a practiced smile. “I meant what I said. Listen well. I keep my word. Kiss me, and blood will be spilled.”

“Y-you’re a crazy person!” I hissed, shoving at his chest. “And I wasn’t going to kiss you!”

“Sure you weren’t.” He put the gun away. “Good talk though, right? Oh look, the movie theater.”

To say that I scrambled out of the car like a kid running away from her kidnapper would be a gross understatement, but the minute my feet hit the pavement, I paused.

My body told me to run.

The guy had pulled a gun.

    On me.

I didn’t even watch violent movies, I’d just panicked and said the first thing that popped into my head!

And I was about to go to the theater with a guy who probably showered in blood on a daily basis and by the looks of it — got off on it.

Shivering, I forced myself to take a deep breath and wrapped my jacket tighter around my body.

That was the thing about men like Sergio, or maybe just loyalty in general. He’d promised he would keep me safe, but I wondered if that promise was only extended until I was more trouble than I was worth.

I was safe, not because of what I was to him.

But because of who my dad had been to him.

    I was nothing.

And yet, a part of me still yearned to be… something.

    Anything really.

    Pathetic.

“Change your mind?” Sergio’s smooth voice interrupted my thoughts. He was the type of man you felt even when he wasn’t speaking. His presence was impossible to ignore, kind of like his ridiculous good looks.

Weren’t mafia guys supposed to be old?

    Fat?

Chain smokers who bought Cuban cigars and sat behind large desks while counting money and ordering hits on people who pissed them off?

“No.” I finally found my voice. “I was just thinking….”

“About?” His hand touched my back, ushering me forward, but not pushing, almost as if he was giving me the option of still saying no.

I increased my pace so that I couldn’t feel the warmth of his fingertips. “Popcorn.” I turned and winked, hoping it would hide the fact that my body was shaking.

Maybe I was the crazy one.

    Because he was armed.

    The man was armed.

And he had no qualms about pointing his weapon at me whenever I got too close.

Huh, we’d have a happy marriage.

I guess we’d never argue, since I liked living.

    And, you know, breathing.

It would suck not to make my twenty-first birthday because I didn’t fold the towels just right.

    And again, I froze.

Was he that neurotic? Or was it just the closeness?

“On a scale of one to ten…” I was proud of the way I kept the shaking out of my voice. Why was I so scared? Oh right, because he’d pointed a gun, no, shoved a freaking gun into my stomach and done it with a smile on his face. “How OCD are you?”

An easy laugh escaped him as he glanced around the movie theater lobby and then back at me. “What makes you think I’m OCD?”

“Things.” I gulped then forced a smile that I didn’t feel. How was I supposed to go through an entire movie knowing he was one uncomfortable conversation away from losing it? “So?”

“What can I get you?” A teen boy looked at Sergio then smiled wider when his eyes fell to me.

Immediately, Sergio wrapped a protective arm around me, basically forcing my body to curve into his warmth. “My wife and I will have two buckets of popcorn, two packs of Sour Patch Kids, and a bottled water.”

I didn’t correct him about the water.

“Wait.” Sergio held up his hand. “Sorry, Dr. Pepper mixed with Coke.”

The teen scrunched up his face then rung us up. His eyes fell to me again then back at the register, like he was trying not to look but couldn’t help it, which was comical, since I didn’t really think I was anything to look at.

When he handed Sergio back his change I could have sworn I heard a growl from my “husband.”

As it was, he jerked the candy so hard out of the kid’s hands that I was surprised he didn’t do a front flip over the counter.

“He’s a boy,” I whispered under my breath. “No need to shoot him too.”

Sergio glanced down at me, muttered a curse. “He was staring.”

“He looked about one science project away from solving world hunger via his mom’s basement… hardly the type of guy that I’d date.”

“Date?” Sergio said it so loudly the people in front of us waiting to show the attendant their tickets jumped and then turned around. “What the hell do you mean date?”

    Crap. I’d messed up again.

My palms went sweaty while my face felt numb with fear. Regardless of how pretty he was to look at — I was finally fully aware of how dangerous he was to me.

    To everyone around me.

Sweat trickled down my lower back as I gulped down more soda and shrugged. “I just mean, he’s not my type.”

“No shit he isn’t, because you don’t get a type anymore.”

“Right.” I licked my lower lip, pretending not to be scared, pretending to be the brave person I wasn’t was wearing on me.

By the time we made it into the theater I was dizzy.

It was too much all at once.

“So…” Sergio’s voice was in my ear. I jumped a foot. He frowned as if he couldn’t figure out why I’d be so jumpy. “Dante sits behind you, right?”

“Right.” I exhaled in relief. I forgot. It wasn’t a date. It was a challenge. He’d called me his sister, so therefore he was my brother, right? Hah. I relaxed a bit as I pointed to a seat a few rows back and quickly stole the goodies out of his hands then made my way to my own seat before he could object.

    The credits started rolling.

And I found myself ducking in the chair.

The hair on the back of my neck stood on end.

As if I was being watched — because I was.

Ten minutes into the movie, I was so stressed out, I almost burst into tears. My back was to him.

Wasn’t that a big no-no? My back was to the dude with the gun.

Even though he was supposed to protect me with the gun, all bets were off now.

Sweat pooled in the palms of my hands.

The music rose as one of the actresses ran down the stairs screaming.

    I couldn’t take it.

And then, a body sat down next to me.

Sergio gave me a suspicious look then put a seat between us.

    I exhaled.

    But it wasn’t relief.

At least I knew where he was.

And where the gun was, he was right handed, so there was that.

I finally allowed myself to relax enough to watch the movie when I saw Sergio’s right hand duck into his jacket.

I gripped the plastic arm rests, my fingers digging into the cheap sticky plastic material as he slowly pulled something out.

    He turned.

And I flinched so hard that there was no mistaking what I thought he was doing.

Even though he had grabbed a black cell phone.

    The damage was done.

My entire body shook as a big fat tear escaped, I tried to wipe it away but I wasn’t fast enough.

“S-sorry.” I shoved past him and ran.

But my body was too scared.

    Too tired

    To make it very far.

    Empire Teaser #4

    Review

    Jill’s Review

Well, I don’t know how she does it… but Rachel Van Dyken seems to take each book in the Eagle Elite Series to the next level. I remember thinking, there is no way she will be able to compare with Elude, how will the rest of Sergio’s story hold up? But she killed it. Empire is everything you could want and more!

So let’s start with how this is Book #7 in the Eagle Elite Series. Those of you that have been reading this series, I KNOW you are all – come on, bring it on! We want more! Those of you who are new to this magnificent mafia series don’t fret! You do NOT need to read the whole series to enjoy this book. While Empire can absolutely be read as a complete standalone, I would highly recomend reading Elude first. This will give you Sergio’s whole story and make you fall completely for him. *Sigh*

Sergio is lost, broken, angry – a shell of the man he once was. And now he is being told in order to help save the empire, he will be heading into another arranged marriage. Sergio will do anything for the Family, even marry again. But love her? Cherish her? Fall for her? Not a chance! He’ll murder her first!

Val is young, naive, sweet, sheltered but has a hidden spunk that starts shining through in the book. She grew up blind to who her family really was until Sergio showed up in her life. Now she has a lot to digest and an upcoming wedding to a man she doesn’t know to top it off.

This book had it all. Drama, action, family, loyalty, secrets, friendship, healing, loss and yes – romance and love. You will be kept at the edge of your seat as you try and piece everything together. Your emotions will be all over the place – laughing (Snow Angels), Angry (Sergio…), heartbroken (letters), snickering (Oklahoma!) and so much more. It is an absolutely beautiful tale of healing. A sort of second chance romance that will have you rooting for Val (yes, even those who are thinking no before picking this up.) They didn’t have it easy.. but watching them struggle and come into their own accounted for so much of the beauty.

I more than recommend (is that possible) this book, this series. This is an absolute MUST READ! You do not need to be a fan of mafia romances to fall in love here. If you like a story that will make you feel then pick this one up. If I could give it twirls instead of stars this would be a TWO TWIRL book! (Once you read, you’ll get that!)

The loving couple in the rain

Get the beginning of Sergio’s story in Elude

    elude

Twenty-Four hours before were were to be married–I offered to shoot her.

Ten hours before our wedding–I made a mockery of her dying wish.

Five hours before we were going to say our vows–I promised I’d never love her.

One hour before I said I do–I vowed I’d never shed a tear over her death.

But the minute we were pronounced man and wife–I knew.

I’d only use my gun to protect her.

I’d give my life for hers.

    I’d cry.

And I would, most definitely, lose my heart, to a dying girl–a girl who by all accounts should have never been mine in the first place.

I always believed the mafia would be my end game–where I’d lose my heart, while it claimed my soul. I could have never imagined. It would be my redemption.

Or the beginning of something beautiful.

    The beginning of her.

    The end of us.

    Songbird Synopsis:

    Songbird ebook

One bridesmaid. One groomsman. One classic wedding hookup.

But for Callie and Devin, their weekend of passion is anything but typical.

Callie Franklin doesn’t do one night stands.

    Ever.

She’s far too responsible and focused on her career to ever let herself give in to temptation. But, on the eve of her best friend’s wedding, she meets that temptation . . .

And his name is Devin McAllister.

Devin, on the other hand, has no problem with meaningless hookups. The very last thing he needs—or wants—is a relationship.

    Relationships come with strings.

    Relationships come with heartbreak.

A late-night encounter in the hotel’s piano bar finds the two unable to resist each other. With her angelic voice and bright blue eyes, Devin’s sure he’s never met anyone as beautiful as his Songbird.

Six weeks later, when two pink lines confirm Callie’s worst fears, she and Devin have to face the consequences of their wild weekend.

And they have to deal with each other—whether they like it or not.

With a love story that’s far from traditional, Callie and Devin begin to wonder if their one-night stand could turn into something neither of them anticipated.

    A happily ever after.

    Exclusive Excerpt:

Traffic’s insane, but I finally make it to Callie’s apartment just after two. I anxiously knock on the door, ridiculously eager to get my hands on her. Maybe she’ll be wearing some flimsy lingerie. Maybe she’ll be naked. My mind’s busy conjuring all the possibilities when she opens the door . . . wearing a sweatshirt and jeans.

“Hey,” she says softly, stepping aside to let me in.

    “Hey. You okay?”

She looks pale as a ghost. Is she sick? She looks sick. Maybe I should call an ambulance. Or my dad.

“I’m okay.” Callie leads me over to the sofa. “Look, Devin, I know you probably have some plans for us for tonight, but that won’t be happening.”

“Oh.” Disappointment floods me, but if the nauseated look on her face is any indication, it’s probably best. Besides, there’s the next night. And the next.

“But we need to talk, so I’m glad you’re here. I have something I need to tell you.” She abruptly jumps to her feet and walks toward her kitchen. “Would you like something to drink?”

I can’t tell if she’s being a good hostess or simply stalling, but I ask for a beer. It looks like I’m gonna need it. I hadn’t pegged her for the kind of woman who needs to talk about her feelings.

When she returns to the living room, Callie hands me a bottle and sits down next to me. I notice she only brought one.

    “You’re not drinking?”

She curls her feet beneath her. “Unfortunately, no. I won’t be drinking for a long time.”

I’ve had it with the riddles.

“All right, what’s going on? My brother and his girlfriend threatened to murder me if I make you cry. Something’s obviously up with you because you just want to talk.”

Her forehead creases. “Don’t you ever just talk to a woman?”

“Not if I can help it.”

“Why not? The girls you usually date don’t have enough sense to carry on an intelligent conversation?”

    “I don’t date, Callie.”

“I see. You just sleep with them.”

“Sometimes. Is there something wrong with that?”

    “And are you careful?”

    “Careful?”

“Safe,” she says softly. “We didn’t use protection. I just wondered if that’s typical for you.”

Oh. It’d be easy to blame the alcohol, but honestly, using protection was the very last thing on my mind that night.

“No, that’s not typical. I’m sorry about that.”

    “So am I.”

Callie seems far more relaxed after my apology. Maybe this night won’t be an epic failure after all. I slide closer to her, but she raises her hand in warning.

    “We’re not finished.”

I groan and lean back against the couch.

“Devin, I need you to listen. Something happened that weekend. I’m almost positive you won’t want to sleep with me after you hear what I’m about to say.”

    “I seriously doubt that.”

“I don’t.” Callie sits up a little straighter and squares her shoulders. “I want you to know I expect nothing from you. Our weekend together was a mistake, and I’ll deal with the consequences of it. I don’t know exactly what I’m going to do at this point, but I thought you should at least know what’s going on.”

    “What’s going on?”

    Her eyes flood with tears.

    “Devin, I’m pregnant.”

    Pregnant.

    Pregnant?

I stare at her. She stares at me. I watch her closely, hoping that at any moment she’s going to burst out laughing.

But she’s not laughing. She’s crying.

I hear Lorie’s voice in my suddenly throbbing head.

    Don’t make her cry.

“Why . . . why are you telling me?”

She wipes her eyes. “What do you mean?”

    “You’re assuming it’s mine?”

    “Of course it’s yours!”

I snort. “Really? How can you be so sure? Maybe it was that bartender in the hotel’s piano bar. Or maybe it was the guy who sat with you at the reception. Or maybe—just maybe—it was the photographer you were with tonight. You two seem pretty close.”

Even as the bitter words drip off my tongue, I know better. Her face is just too furious . . . her eyes too heartbroken.

Suddenly, Callie stops crying. Her eyes flash with fury just seconds before she slaps me across the face.

Despite the ringing in my ears, I can hear my brother’s warning.

    Don’t be an asshole tonight.

    Too late.

“How many homes do you manage?”

He walked with her across the yard and to her door. “Mine, plus four more. It’s an easy job most of the time. Stephen is a friend of my father’s. He’s always traveling and needed someone to look after all the small things he can’t.”

    “Gives you time to write?”

“Yes, definitely. And I get discount on my rent. He and my dad are close, so he didn’t hesitate to help me out.”

“Well, I’m glad I rented this place. And that my pipe leaked.” He watched her body tense up as she turned to unlock her door. “The cast party is on Friday night. I’m renting a small shuttle to come pick us up.”

“A shuttle?” She stepped partially inside before turning.

“Yeah, so everyone can party recklessly but get home reliably. Besides, who wants to find parking and drive in downtown traffic, right?”

    “Smart move.”

“Be sure to wear a sexy costume, Grace.”

“I don’t do sexy.” Grace placed her bag on the hall tree and turned back toward him. “And one date down, one to go.”

“You are sexy. And today was not a date.”

    “Says who?”

    “Me.”

“See? If this was in the old days, we’d define this as a date.”

He laughed and stuffed his hands in his pockets. “It’s not the old days, honey buns.”

She crossed her arms and continued. “So what, in your opinion, defines a date, Mr. Matthews?”

Evan grasped her arm and tugged her forward. Their bodies were so close, and he could feel himself stir as he breathed in her scent. His hand brushed her cheek, and his lips drifted near hers. She didn’t push him away, but he knew if he got any closer she would. “When I get to kiss you at the end of it, Gracie. And I will eventually kiss you, doll.” He winked at her and walked away, letting her settle with that notion and knowing he was getting closer to winning her over.

And then there’s me…the quirky girl looking to find herself in California. All I want to do is learn to let loose. Say words like peace and groovy. Bury my toes in the sand. Who knows, maybe even have sex on the beach.

Unable to get him out of my head, I entertain the thought of being more than just friends. I know the idea is absurd. And yet, I go with it. You see Camden Waters gets me. Really gets me. Like no other guy has before.

On this 7-mile stretch of paradise, I decide to keep things simple and just have fun…that is until fate decides to screw with me, again.

Can two people hell-bent on finding themselves realize the search should have ended the day they met? Find out in No Pants Required—a sexy, funny, romantic stand-alone, that will have you hurrying to grab your bathing suit and rushing to the beach to check out every lifeguard on duty.

    Excerpt

Do you want me to fuck you?

Yes,I bite out, barely able to speak.

Good, now be a good girl and stand up. Bend over and brace yourself on the chair.

I do as Im told looking back over my shoulder to see him watching me.

Youre beautiful, but youll look even better when Im balls deep inside of you.

I moan at his words. Yes, please. Now,I say unintelligibly. Slowly, too slowly, he slides in. As good as this feels, I need more. I need it hard and fast. Faster, please. I need it fast!

    Shhh,he says soothingly.

I know what you want, and Im going to give it to you, but let me feel this first.

I groan out my impatience. He glides in and out causing the most exquisite friction. As good as it feels, its maddening. Its just enough to keep me hanging on the edge, but not enough to tip me over. I begin gyrating my hips backward to create a faster tempo. It has the opposite effect as he pulls all the way out.

Are you about done rushing me, love?

    Jill’s Review

Peep is another fast and dirty read from Heather Stone.

Do like the slightly forbidden-taboo? Do you like to peek in on what’s going on? Ever thought about being watched? Getting excited just thinking about it? 😉 Tommy has been watching his neighbor in her apartment for 2 years now. She is his dream.. watching her excites him. But he thinks it is a secret! Little does Tommy know, that Tiffany has been aware this whole time and is turned on by it. Not to mention she may just be messing with him a bit! What happens when they actually meet in real life? At work? UH OH!

Sparks fly is what happens. Their chemistry is off the charts. They cannot keep their hands off of each other and it is deliciously naughty. But there is also romance and fun in this HEA novella.

If you are looking for a quickie, in every sense of the word, don’t pass this one up! 😉

    “I’m so hungry,” Callie said.
“Then let’s go,” Dallas answered, locking his door.
We got to the street and had started walking toward Callie’s car when Dallas stopped walking.
    “What’s wrong?” I asked.
    “Just waiting for Wyatt.”
    “Wyatt?”
“Yep,” I heard Wyatt say behind me.
“Um, guys, my car only holds four,” Callie said.
“Well.” Jolie grinned and I knew she was up to something. “Callie, why don’t I ride with you and Dallas so I can get the real story on my girl here. And Vi, why don’t you take Wyatt in your car? All set?”
    “Sounds good.” Callie smiled.
“Works for me,” Dallas added. They started to walk away, leaving me alone with Wyatt.
“Where’s your car?” Wyatt asked while I looked at my friends with wide eyes.
    Pure. Fucking. Evil.
I will get you all back—at least that’s what I tried to convey with my eyes, but all I heard was their laughter.
“This way,” I said, pointing in the opposite direction.
I climbed into the driver’s seat and waited for Wyatt to join me inside.
He started laughing and looked over at me. “They’re not subtle, are they?”
“Not even a little.” I smiled. “Sorry about them.”
“Listen, full disclosure, I’m very interested. But I know you have things you need to deal with, so no pressure.”
I opened my mouth to speak, but nothing came out. How could it? Wyatt winked sweetly and I shook my head, laughing at him.

    REVIEW

    Jill’s Review

Everywhere and Every Way by Jennifer Probst is a fabulous start to a brand new series.

The Billionaire Builders series will focus around the three Pierce brothers. Three deliciously sexy, stubborn and intriguing men who though they are brothers are each very different. The brothers have been estranged for the last few years, but the death of their father brings them together once again. Will all be smooth sailing now? Ha! You know it is never that easy! Their father’s will states they need to run the company TOGETHER – the problem is their relationship is carrying some serious baggage. Anger, hurt, lack of trust, differing visions… to start with. And now to throw another wrench in their plans sassy southern belle Morgan has come to them to build her clients dream house. Ooooh… sounds like just what they need! A big new client to help the family business! But Morgan likes things done HER way. AND she just may have cost them some business so she could get on their schedule. Not a great way to start a relationship!

But always remember things may not be what they seem. The southern lady can build just as well as any man on the crew – and OMG can we talk about how much I LOVED that! She did it with her own flair and style and not only did she win over the crew, but me as well! And the underlying chemistry between Cal and Morgan… but you know that mixing work with pleasure is a big ‘ol NO! But how long will they be able to fight their feelings? Luckily we get to see them together! Their banter is so much fun to witness. And watching how Morgan is a lady in public but not afraid to get dirty on the site or in the bedroom… perfection! Will this couple last beyond the finish of construction? Cal his hands full between convincing Morgan to be with him and juggling the struggles he is having with his brothers. I loved how we got to see Cal’s feelings and confusion with his relationships. Family dynamics can be quite complicated! But watching him begin to work through them with nudges from Morgan was so great.

Everywhere and Every Way is a sweet and sexy story of love, family and coming into one’s self. The characters are wonderful and I can not wait to visit them again. I would really like more… NOW! There are hints at what is to come, and I am counting the days until I can jump back into the Pierce’s lives, loves and drama!

I definitely recomend this book. If you are a fan of romance, family or an HGTV junkie – you are not going to want to miss this one!

    Excerpt

Crossing behind the couch toward the kitchen, I find myself remembering those naked, intimate moments with Kayden only a short time ago. The passion. The trust I’d felt for him. And then his words: “We both want more. Until we don’t.” The words send a surge of adrenaline and nerves through my body.

The scent of freshly brewed coffee teases my nostrils as I reach the kitchen, where I immediately find Kayden standing behind the island. But it’s not him that makes my heart lurch, as usual. It’s my gun that’s lying on the counter between us.

And when I should perhaps step backward I find myself charging forward to claim the other side of the counter.

    “What is that for?”

“You thought you needed it earlier,” he says. “I want you to have it now.”

My fingers curl on the tiled counter. “Do I need it?”

    “That’s for you to decide.”

“That isn’t the answer I want.”

His jaw sets hard. “If you’re expecting an answer you’ll want, you’d better pick up that gun.”

We stare at each other, a push and pull between us that has nothing to do with fear or intimidation, and everything to do with a bond we both know is being tested. “I know what you’re doing.”

    “What am I doing?”

“The same thing you did outside that church, when you helped me hold the gun to your chest.”

    “Which is what?”

“Offering me the façade of control.”

“You holding a loaded gun on me in no way equals a façade.”

“I know you now,” I counter. “You don’t give up control, even when you say you are.”

He rests his hands on the counter, one turned just enough for me to catch a glimpse of the hawk inked on his wrist, its wings spread, the mark of a man whose rules of many must dictate his actions. “There are two sides to this coin,” he says, his words drawing my attention, his pale blue eyes piercing mine. “The me with you, and the me with everyone else.”

“We barely knew each other at the church.”

“I’d already decided you were mine. You just didn’t know it yet.”

    Review

    Jill’s Review

Demand by Lisa Renee Jones is a compelling Romantic Suspense that will keep you glued to your ereader and flipping through those pages to try and figure everything out!

Let’s begin with this – Yes, Demand is part of a series. It is Book 2 in the careless Whispers series and should truly be read in order as it builds on information from the previous book. No fear though, if you read and are afraid you won’t remember… Lisa sums Denial (book #1) up beautifully before you dive in to Demand.

Demand picks up right where Lisa left us salivating for more in Denial. We are right back into the thick of things with Ella and Kayden. Immersed in their intensity, the action, the feelings, the confusion, the absolute HOTNESS that is the chemistry between them and the sweet development of their relationship. We get some answers to questions that have burning in our minds after Denial, but alas we are left with even more questions! This book takes on twists and turns as we are given glimpses and hints at what the final truth may be. It is fantastic because I was always guessing, seeing what I could pick up and put together, and hoping that I am right! It is a true suspense.. so we till don’t know everything and I LOVE THAT!

I read Demand straight through because I just needed to know! Well know as much as I could 😉 While the suspense encompassed the entire book.. there is also a love story here. And watching them together… it was crazy hot and sweet. watching how protective they both are to each other.. melted my heart. Yet the passion that ignites between them is off the charts. It also had my emotions raw and on edge as I went through everything with the characters.

I highly recommend Demand (and Denial). If you are looking to be taken for a ride with a gripping story that will have you constantly questioning things, a fantastic love story and characters you can’t help but become attached to, then this book is for you! I will be counting the days until I get my hands on the next book in the series!

What if I told you that there’s a magic potion that could lead you to the man of your dreams?

    Would you drink it?

Josie Carter swore that there was no such thing as a “love potion” and that the crazy lady selling it at the hippie festival was a complete sham.

But a tiny little thread of hope is what made her try a sip.

A sip that caused a series of unfortunate events to unfold, wreaking havoc in her life but leading her to a man who just might be everything she’s been missing.

Before time runs out she’ll have to figure out if it’s true love, or if it’s all just too good to be true.

    Excerpt

Outside the brick building, all three garage doors are lowered, but the door knob easily turns in my hand. Opening up, I call out, but get no answer. The front lights in the receptionist and waiting area are out, but the ones in the garage are on. I hear rock music coming from the same direction, so I start that way. I go past a car raised up on the lift, and then I come to an abrupt halt, unable to move another step when I see him.

Too jaw-dropping gorgeous to be real, his thick, golden hair is mussed and messy, and a hint of stubble runs along his chiseled jaw. From my profile view of his shirtless body several feet away, his smooth bulging muscles, obviously carved from granite, are covered in sweat, shining like a beacon of sexiness as he works underneath the hood of a car. Never before has sweat looked so sweet, nor the sight of a man ever been this absolutely delectable. Maybe it’s all the remnants of car fumes getting to me, but I feel lightheaded when a scorching hot inferno suddenly ignites somewhere deep inside. Unfamiliar liquid heat burns through me, like nothing I’ve never felt before.

    Lord Jesus, there’s a fire…In. My. Panties.

When Lane’s not writing or reading sexy novels, she can be found in the summer on the beaches of the east coast, and in the fall watching football, cheering on the Carolina Panthers.
