“Quint and Annie sitting in a tree…K.I.S.S.I.N.G.”
Quint Lawson and Annie Weber heard that childhood song over and over and it never bothered them. Even though Quint was only five, Annie wasn’t just his neighbor. She would become his best friend and the love of his life. Annie wasn’t interested in dolls, or girly things when growing up. A tomboy at heart, having a boy as a best friend suited her just fine. That same boy captured her heart.
Quint had two passions, his girl and baseball. From kindergarten to college, Quint tore up every baseball diamond he played on. His position was shortstop. His talent was undeniable. Professional ball was most definitely in his future, and he was ready for it. Annie would be right by his side.
When everything in life is perfect, it’s hard to imagine heartbreak in any form. Quint wasn’t immune to its power. This shortstop had no idea what any form of heartbreak could do to his perfect world. When it hit, there were many casualties left in its wake…the most important one was Annie.
Can a person be prepared for, understand, or even endure a misfortune if they’ve never experienced one before? In Quint Lawson’s case the answer is no.
What could be better than a love story about a shortstop? Oh make them childhood sweethearts! Want to put the icing on the cake and make this chick’s heart go into overdrive… just mention the Yankees! OH MY! Wait they did it!! Oh why, Oh why couldn’t I have been that cute little Annie who wondered over to Quint’s lawn in her sweet little Yankees T-Shirt at the ripe ol’ age of five years old and plopped herself down to play with his trucks? (And yes I really mean trucks! Get your mind out of the gutter!) BFFs from the the very start and most likely in love right from there. Is there anything sweeter? *SIGH* And then Quint grows up to be a strapping hottie that fills out those baseball pants like no other. The way he rocks a diamond – WOW! The passion he has for it is only matched for the passion he has for Annie (again, see why I wish I was her.. I want someone to direct all that passion toward me and be hot on the diamond!) And everyone has their eye on Quint. And when I say everyone I do mean everyone.. including the pros!
But this sweet little love story isn’t all sunshine and flowers. Nor is it all home runs and diamonds. It stays pretty true to real life, in that they have ups and downs as any couple would. But will Quint and Annie be prepared to deal with it when things really fall apart? Or will it all be so new to them that they just don’t know how to handle it? Their perfect life no longer being so perfect?
Throughout the book you get to see the deep affection and love that Annie and Quint have for one another. And also the scorching chemistry that burns between them. I love how they interact with each other and that dirty mouth that Quint has – HOTTTTTTT!!! But what is even better is to see how ‘normal’ they are. Quint is a dirty little boy, but he can still fluster his girl. She may be comfortable with him but she still has doubts about herself and her sexuality. And can’t we all say we have been there. Especially when we were younger. No matter how undeniably in love we were. I love when books write REAL like that. When they don’t make it too magical, when you can see yourself there. It is those foibles that MAKE a book for me.
I just adore everything about Annie and Quint, even when I truly wanted to throttle them! (you’ll see why) But really, every life has conflict in it. And people’s lives take unexpected and sometime’s unwanted turns. It is what you end up doing with them, how you handle them and how you bounce back that show’s what you are truly made of. And in the end that is what this book was about. And it was beautiful. Their strength made me happy. And their ability to learn and grow and come into their own separately and as a couple, is what everyone should strive for. It is what will keep them steady and ensure them a happily ever after.
I recommend this book.
