Beer garden
He leaned over and brushed his lips across my neck, sending tingles all the way down my arms. I turned my head and found his mouth with mine, our tongues meeting in a lazy, slightly tipsy lick that stirred all my baser instincts.
“Let’s get out of here,” he said, low and sexy.
I drew back to look at him and felt my heart bare itself in my expression.
“You do the most astonishing things to me,” I whispered, my eyes dropping down to fix on his mouth.
His lips parted with a sound that was almost a gasp, and when my eyes found their way back up to meet his, I saw all of my intensity reflected.
“You have no idea what it does to me to hear you say that,” he said, reaching up to cup my face in his hands.
And all of a sudden it was much too much. I could literally feel myself falling, heart and soul in my outstretched palms, toward and into and for this man. And I knew that I was on the edge of letting go.
I closed my eyes and leaned forward, physically if not figuratively, kissing him chastely and then pulling away and out of the moment before it consumed me entirely.
“Drunk before the sun hits the horizon,” I declared, standing up and steadying myself with a hand on his shoulder. “Let’s go get some food so I’m not a complete wreck by the time we meet everyone at the bar tonight.”
Jonathan looked up at me and smiled, nodding his head before pressing his lips together.
“Yeah, let’s do that,” he said, with something like a sigh.
He was obviously handling the intensity way better than I was. But then, it made complete sense that he would be. This was his fling with some random expat at the tail-end of his wild tour of the continent. It was all make-believe for him, and I was sure that as soon as his feet hit American soil, he’d forget all about this madness we were creating.
But this was my life, and his bold entry into my relatively ordered existence was undoubtedly going to shake things up, unless I kept a very tight grip on my emotions.
It was becoming plainly obvious that you didn’t forget a guy like Jonathan in a hurry.
