I want to tell you how great my life was.
How I lived without regrets. With constant laughter. Without any tears. I want to tell you how I lived each moment to the fullest. How each breath I took was fresh and full of life. With eagerness. Without any fear.
I want to tell you all of that, but then my story would be masked with lies and not worth telling.
My life didn’t start until I left my past. And I left everything…
My mother, my friends, my name. My new name, the name everyone knows me by is Erin Lewis.
Four years after finding the courage to leave her hometown in Alabama, Erin is finally happy with where her life has led her. Not only is she secure in her environment, but the relationships she has formed center her, making her forget how damaged she once was. Before she can fully settle into her new life, her past crashes into her present, unraveling a set of events that destroy the very foundation she has built her new life on.

Life’s A Cappella is a breathtaking debut novel from Yessi Smith! The book starts out with Erin finishing up her degree in nursing and seemingly having put her past behind her. She lets us, the reader, know (but not her new friends) that her past was not all sunshine and rainbows. She moved to Miami four years ago to start over, to start a new life: “My life didn’t start until I left my past. And I left everything. My mother, my friends, my name.” However we soon see that though she puts on a good front, the pain, insecurities and demons from her past still lie deep within her.

Yessi Smith achingly captured Erin’s emotional struggles throughout this book. Erin faces tragedies, struggles and finally the understanding of unconditional love as she goes from a partying college student to a woman. It is delightful to be able to watch her grow and mature in her relationships throughout the book.

Life’s A Capella was a very moving read that will stay with you after you swipe the last page. I highly recommend this book.

Five months after their wedding, Trent struggles with the strain of juggling work and family life as Erin furthers her education, getting a Master’s degree in Nursing. All Trent wants is one weekend alone with his wife to reconnect but Erin’s focus is adamantly elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Nate, Erin’s oldest friend and brother, has formed an undeniable bond with Tonya that he is reluctant to pursue because of his own inner demons.

Will love be enough?

Yessi Smith’s Our A Cappella (OAC) picks up five months after Erin and Trent’s wedding in Life’s A Cappella (LAC). It is told from multiple POVs: Trent, Nate and Shayna. I love being able to revisit our favorite characters! We see Erin as she is struggling to balance family life with school and work. Trent, as he is trying to manage work and family and also pressing Erin for more attention in their new marriage. Nate has been spending a lot of time with Tonya and has been staying with Erin and Trent and also seems to be carrying a heavy weight on his shoulders. And Shayna has her own unique perspective on all she sees!

Yessi Smith once again captures the character’s emotional ups and downs in this book. It was so easy to get lost in them and not want to put the book down. OAC is that perfect bridge that takes us from LAC, catches us up on Trent, Erin and Shayna and then starts to transition us over to Nate. I think that OAC helps to whet our appetite for what is to come in the next story. We had already adored Nate from LAC but he just became so much hotter and sexier here and now we are also rooting for him, for Tonya and have a NEED to make sure that everything turns out alright.

If you read Life’s A Cappella then this is a no-brainer read for you. And if you haven’t, then please go one-click Life’s A Cappella because it is an absolute MUST READ book IMO and then read Our A Cappella! You won’t be sorry!

I received a complimentary copy of Our A Cappella from the author in exchange for my honest review.

I’m a Hispanic living in South Florida with my redneck husband from Texas and our “half breed” son, who is actually the reason I started writing again after years of celibacy. My son loves stories, but not the kind you can read in an existing book. No, he’d rather make up a story, complete with our own illustrations. So, thank you, Son, for igniting a flame I had let go out.

I also live with two dogs: a neurotic Border Collie we call Nitro and a midget Rottweiler named Nisa.
I have always found my sanctuary at the beach and in music and writing. I wish I could write rhymes so I could become a famous rapper, but rhyming is completely lost on me.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and a Master’s in Human Resource Management. I have held several jobs, from picking up dog crap to upper management positions. And now I am hoping to leave the business world behind so I can live full time in a world that does not exist until I place my fingers on a keyboard and bring them to fruition.
